Position Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer for the Insurance & Accounting Industry to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable software solutions that support critical business operations. This role will contribute to applications and integrations for insurance and accounting workflows, including policy administration, billing, claims, invoicing, payments, reconciliation, reporting, and financial data management.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and committed to building secure, scalable, and maintainable software. You will collaborate with product, engineering, quality assurance, operations, and business teams to understand requirements, deliver solutions, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve application performance and user experience.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development and Application Engineering

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications supporting insurance and accounting operations.

• Write clean, maintainable, scalable, and well-documented code using established development standards.

• Translate business and technical requirements into effective software solutions.

• Develop application features for workflows such as policy processing, claims, billing, payments, invoicing, reconciliation, and reporting.

• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and consistency.

• Refactor existing code and improve application architecture, maintainability, and performance.

Integrations and Data Management

• Develop and maintain integrations between insurance, accounting, customer relationship management, payment, reporting, and other business systems.

• Work with APIs, web services, file transfers, scheduled jobs, and middleware to support reliable data exchange.

• Design and implement data validation, transformation, and error-handling processes.

• Work with relational databases and SQL to create queries, manage data access, and support application functionality.

• Investigate and resolve data inconsistencies, integration failures, and processing errors.

• Help ensure data accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and traceability across business workflows.

Testing, Deployment, and Support

• Develop unit tests, integration tests, and automated test coverage for new and existing functionality.

• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to plan test scenarios, reproduce defects, and verify fixes.

• Support application deployments, release activities, and configuration changes across development, testing, and production environments.

• Monitor application performance and investigate production issues using logs, metrics, and diagnostic tools.

• Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and post-incident improvement activities.

• Maintain technical documentation, deployment notes, troubleshooting guides, and support procedures.

Security, Compliance, and Quality

• Apply secure coding practices and support access control, authentication, authorization, and data protection requirements.

• Follow software development lifecycle, change management, version control, and release management procedures.

• Support compliance requirements relevant to insurance and accounting operations, including audit readiness and responsible data handling.

• Identify potential risks, technical debt, performance concerns, and opportunities for system improvement.

• Ensure solutions meet functional, technical, security, reliability, and usability requirements.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with product managers, business analysts, quality assurance, operations, security, and business stakeholders.

• Participate in standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, retrospectives, and technical discussions.

• Estimate development work, communicate progress, and raise technical risks or blockers promptly.

• Recommend improvements to development processes, application architecture, automation, and operational efficiency.

• Share technical knowledge and contribute to team documentation, onboarding, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• 2+ years of professional experience in software development, application engineering, or a similar role.

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or an equivalent language.

• Strong understanding of software development principles, object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.

• Experience developing or integrating RESTful APIs, web services, or other system interfaces.

• Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and database performance basics.

• Experience with Git or another version control system and collaborative development workflows.

• Understanding of unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and quality assurance practices.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze technical issues methodically.

• Excellent English communication skills for collaboration, documentation, and stakeholder updates.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, reliable, and maintainable software.

• Reliable internet connection, a suitable home office environment, and ability to work effectively with remote or international teams.

Preferred

• Experience with insurance or accounting software and business processes such as policy lifecycle, claims, billing, invoicing, payments, reconciliation, or financial reporting.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, containers, or infrastructure automation.

• Knowledge of frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.

• Experience with backend frameworks such as .NET, Spring, Django, Node.js, or similar technologies.

• Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architecture, ETL processes, or enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience with automated testing frameworks, performance testing, and application monitoring tools.

• Background supporting regulated environments with audit, security, privacy, and compliance considerations.

• Experience working in Agile or Scrum development teams.

• Relevant certifications in cloud computing, software development, security, or database technologies.
