About the Position:

Our Homeowner Underwriters are the best of the best when it comes to assessing complex risks and making sound policy determinations. You will evaluate applications, inspections, and valuation data for high value and luxury homes, and take the appropriate action to underwrite these policies according to Swyfft’s guidelines and carrier program requirements.

In this fast-paced position, you’ll bring the sound judgment that high-value risks demand while staying organized, prioritizing effectively, and thinking ahead. You’ll use your problem-solving skills and attention to detail to manage your day-to-day responsibilities and navigate challenges as they arise. *This position is a 100% remote U.S. based opportunity that can be based in one of the following states only: AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.

Some travel for day-to-day work, team meetings, and training will be required.

Key Responsibilities: (What you’ll be asked to do)

• Apply your underwriting expertise to assess risks using submission data, inspection reports, and aerial imagery, with particular attention to construction quality, roof condition, and exposure to wind, wildfire, and flood.
• Evaluate replacement cost estimates and insurance-to-value on high value dwellings, recognizing when custom construction, premium finishes, or unique architectural features call for a closer look at Coverage A limits.
• Review protection and loss-mitigation features such as central station alarms, water leak detection and automatic shutoff valves, backup generators, and wind or wildfire mitigation, and recommend or require them where appropriate.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with our agents by clearly communicating eligibility, coverage terms, and underwriting requirements for new and renewal high value policies. This involves regularly engaging with agents by phone and email to assist in risk assessment, gather essential information, and respond to their questions, often on complex or time-sensitive placements.
• Partner with internal team members on underwriting-related projects, including refining high value guidelines and sharing your expertise with fellow underwriters.

• You are detail-oriented, organized, and can multi-task like nothing anyone has ever seen before.
• You understand what sets a high value home apart from a standard homeowners risk, from construction and valuation to the service expectations of affluent clients and their agents.
• Both internal (your peers) and external clients commend your excellent verbal and written communication skills and the timeliness of your follow-up.

Some Requirements: (What you will need to be successful)

• 5+ years of underwriting experience with high value or high net worth homeowners risks is required; experience in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) market is a plus.
• Working knowledge of replacement cost estimating tools (such as 360Value or e2Value) and of catastrophe exposures, including wind, wildfire, and flood.

Certifications or Licensing:

• Producer license preferred but not required.
• Professional designations such as CPCU, AINS, or CPIA are a plus.

 Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED) required.

Computer Skills:

• We’re an MS Office environment
• Experience using video and chat technology (MSTeams & Slack)

 Other:

• Reliable high-speed internet connectivity required.
• Designated quiet work from home space.

Compensation for this position will vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience. Base compensation does not include bonuses or other incentives that the company may choose to pay at its sole discretion.
