Summary: The Senior Technical Lead, Master Data Management is a hands-on practitioner responsible for the functional configuration, execution, and daily operation of Blood Cancer United’s master data program. Reporting to the Director, Data Governance, this role owns the end-to-end lifecycle of Blood Cancer United’s critical data domains—including member organizations, contacts, patient populations, programs, and partners—ensuring that a single, trusted version of each record is available across all systems.

This is a practitioner role. The Senior Technical Lead will get into the data: building matching rules, resolving duplicates, defining MDM reference-data requirements and rules, and partnering directly with system owners and data stewards to make master data reliable, consistent, and actionable. The ideal candidate brings deep MDM expertise—including hands-on experience with enterprise MDM platforms and a comfort operating in a lean nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Master Data Domain Management

  • Own the master data lifecycle for Blood Cancer United’s core domains: constituents (i.e. patients and donors), member organizations, employees, programs, and partner entities
  • Define and maintain golden record standards, including field-level merge and survivorship rules that determine which source system wins when data conflicts arise
  • Define, configure, test, and monitor entity-matching rules to accurately identify, link, and consolidate duplicate or related records across CRM, and other operational systems
  • Define and maintain master-data registry requirements and content; partner with Architecture and Engineering on the technical solution and implementation.
  • Serve as the MDM subject-matter expert who recommends match/merge and survivorship rules and document decisions; the Director, Data Governance owns business governance, decision rights, and senior-leadership approvals.

Data Quality and Remediation

  • Define requirements and execute recurring MDM data-quality assessments across master data domains, measuring accuracy, completeness, uniqueness, consistency, and timeliness
  • Assist in deduplication and data cleansing initiatives, including bulk remediation projects and ongoing exception management workflows
  • Define MDM data-quality rules and acceptance criteria; configure checks within the MDM platform where appropriate and partner with Data Engineering for custom automation using SQL, Python, Power Query, or enterprise tooling.
  • Triage, prioritize, and resolve master data issues escalated by data stewards, system users, or downstream reporting consumers
  • Track and report on data quality metrics, trends, and remediation progress to the Director, Data Governance

System Integration and Data Consistency

  • Partner with Systems Development Engineering team to ensure master data is correctly propagated across integrated platforms, including CRM, marketing tools, and analytics environments
  • Identify and document points of data fragmentation or inconsistency across systems and lead resolution efforts
  • Define MDM mapping requirements and validate cross-system mappings, ensuring that the same entity is consistently identified and represented regardless of source
  • Support data migration and system implementation projects by supplying validated, cleansed, and standardized master data
  • Define and configure MDM standardization rules for names, addresses, organization types, and other structured fields to improve matching and reporting consistency

Documentation and Standards

  • Create and maintain master data documentation including matching rule specifications, survivorship logic, and models MDM domain definitions and business-rule documentation.
  • Document entity resolution decisions, known data exceptions, and business rules in a format accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Document MDM process lineage and source-to-golden-record transformations; partner with Architecture and Engineering for enterprise technical lineage.
  • Contribute to Blood Cancer United’s broader data governance documentation library, ensuring MDM standards align with enterprise data policies

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in MDM, data quality, or enterprise data management, including senior-level ownership of complex MDM delivery and cross-functional workstreams.
  • Strong SQL proficiency for data profiling, match-rule validation, duplicate analysis, and remediation; working knowledge of Python or Power Query for practitioner-level analysis is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise integration concepts and platforms, sufficient to define MDM requirements, review mappings, validate outcomes, and partner effectively with Integration and Data Engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver MDM initiatives in a resource-constrained environment without dedicated MDM platform software
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to navigate complex requirements across business and technical teams
  • Expert in entity resolution and master data design, including matching strategy (deterministic and probabilistic), survivorship logic, and golden record governance at enterprise scale
  • Familiarity with CRM or ERP platforms and their native data management capabilities (deduplication, data loader, merge rules, custom objects)
  • Ability to translate complex MDM concepts into clear documentation and practical guidance for non-technical stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience using and administering a dedicated MDM platform; experience with enterprise MDM system (e.g., Informatica MDM, Semarchy, or Stibo STEP) is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; equivalent experience accepted
  • Experience with nonprofit CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge NXT, or Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Exposure to cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar) and their native data quality or cataloging capabilities
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK MDM knowledge area or equivalent data management framework
  • Experience in or strong familiarity with the life sciences nonprofit sector, including an understanding of blood cancer or rare disease patient advocacy landscapes, clinical research data structures, or health outcomes data; experience managing constituent, member, or patient data in this context is a strong plus
