Senior SAP ABAP Engineer (Banking AMS)

About role 

As a Senior SAP ABAP Engineer you will play a key role in supporting and continuously improving SAP Fioneer's Banking solutions for customers operating mission-critical business processes. 

In this role, you will combine software engineering expertise with technical problem solving, customer collaboration, and operational excellence. You will help ensure the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of productive Banking solutions while contributing technical enhancements and innovative solutions that deliver value to our customers. 

Your expertise will play a crucial role in enhancing the functionality of our Fioneer offerings. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working closely with customers, ensuring operational excellence, and helping shape a growing engineering organization, this role is for you. 

As a Senior Engineer you will also share your experience with junior colleagues and take part in their further education and development. 

This role is more than a senior engineering position. As a key technical presence within a growing organization, you will help establish and develop a high-performing SAP engineering team, combining hands-on expertise with mentorship, collaboration, and leadership to shape both technical excellence and team culture from the ground up. Responsibilities 

Customer Support & Technical Operations 

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical incidents and customer-reported issues in productive Banking environments. 

• Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective and preventive solutions. 

• Support productive customer systems and help ensure stable, secure, and reliable operations. 

• Participate in technical escalations and critical issue resolution activities. 

• Collaborate directly with customers to understand technical challenges and identify effective solutions. 

• Contribute to service quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
   

Development & Maintenance 

• Design, develop, and maintain ABAP-based corrections, enhancements, and technical improvements. 

• Build high-quality software solutions, collaborating directly with internal stakeholders, customers, and partners. 

• Perform impact analysis and support release and deployment activities. 

• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues across application and integration layers. 

• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. 

• Stay up to date with innovations in S/4HANA and modern SAP technologies. 
   

Team Development & Leadership 

• Mentor and support team members in their technical and professional development, creating an environment of continuous learning and collaboration. 

• Contribute to building team culture, ways of working, engineering standards, and support processes as the team expands. 

• Support onboarding and integration of new team members, helping establish a strong and cohesive team foundation. 

• Participate in recruitment activities and help shape a growing AMS engineering capability. 

• Act as a technical role model and trusted advisor within the team. 

Requirements

Must Have

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 

• 6-7 years of experience in ABAP object-oriented development. 

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities. 

• Experience working with productive SAP systems and business-critical applications. 

• Good understanding of ABAP Objects, enhancements, interfaces, and SAP development best practices. 

• Demonstrated experience mentoring developers and supporting the growth of engineering teams. 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to break down technical complexity. 

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and customer organizations. 

• Fluency in English. 

• Fluency in German. 

• Customer-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. 

Nice to Have 

• Experience in Application Management Services (AMS) or production support environments. 

• Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance. 

• Knowledge of CDS Views, OData Services, RAP, SAP UI5, or Fiori. 

• Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA development concepts. 

• Experience contributing to automation, operational improvements, or knowledge management initiatives.
