ADVERTISING TITLE: SENIOR PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANT

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office (Southwood) in the Finance and Accounting Department.

The purpose of the Senior Professional Accountant is to ensure compliance with fiscal standards and departmental procedures by accurately processing, auditing, and reconciling payments and accounting records, while providing timely support and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

This position is telework eligible.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Make sure all payments follow state laws, department rules, and privacy standards.
  • Enter and check financial records using several accounting systems and software.
  • Review and audit invoices, vouchers, and other documents for accuracy and proper approval.
  • Prepare reports, reconcile financial records, and support staff, vendors, and auditors as needed.
  • Stay up to date with training, help with year-end closing, and handle special projects or other tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent AND three years of experience in administrative work, accounting, or auditing.

OR Four years of post-secondary education.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
