What You'll Do  

The US Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, and tax compliance activities for the U.S. business. This role works collaboratively with the Canadian Financial Controller to ensure the integrity of financial information, compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulations, and support executive leadership with accurate and timely financial insights. The Controller partners closely with Operations to maintain a strong control environment and support organizational growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:  

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Drive the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger activities, account reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful commentary on variances, trends, and key performance indicators.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning activities.

Internal & External Audit Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and periodic reviews.
  • Manage audit requests and ensure timely delivery of supporting documentation.
  • Monitor and remediate audit findings and control deficiencies.
  • Maintain documentation and evidence supporting compliance with internal control frameworks.
  • Partner with business leaders to strengthen governance and control processes.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements and assess business impacts.
  • Oversee maintenance of statutory records and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Finance teams to address emerging regulatory matters.

Tax Compliance

  • Oversee U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance processes.
  • Coordinate preparation and filing of income, sales and use, property, franchise, and other applicable taxes.
  • Partner with external tax advisors and service providers on tax reporting and planning matters.
  • Ensure accurate tax accounting, tax provisions, and supporting schedules.
  • Support tax audits and inquiries from regulatory authorities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes and strengthen compliance controls.

Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Build out US team to support business growth
  • Lead, develop, and mentor accounting and finance team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance and support decision-making.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and best practices across finance operations.
  • Support special projects as needed.

Requirements

What We're Looking For  

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is a plus.

Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong experience with financial reporting, external audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience overseeing U.S. tax compliance and working with external tax advisors.
  • Experience in a multi-entity or complex business environment preferred.
  • Public accounting experience is desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Vista by Viewpoint preferred).
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Experience with financial reporting and consolidation systems preferred.
