Role Overview

 

The Senior Product Manager is a seasoned individual contributor responsible for owning complex product areas and driving meaningful business and customer outcomes. Senior Product Managers at PlanSource operate at the intersection of strategy, execution, and user experience, translating company objectives into scalable, high‑impact product solutions that improve how people choose, use, and manage their benefits.

 

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Product Manager sets product direction, leads sophisticated discovery and delivery efforts, and partners deeply with engineering, design, and business stakeholders. This role applies strong product judgment, data‑informed decision‑making, and AI‑enabled insights to solve complex problems and optimize product performance. The Senior Product Manager serves as a trusted product leader and prepares the incumbent for Lead or Principal Product roles.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Product Strategy & Product Area Ownership

  • Own product vision, strategy, and roadmap for complex or high‑impact product areas.
  • Translate company and portfolio strategy into clear product direction and prioritized initiatives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities that balance customer value, business impact, and technical feasibility.
  • Understand competitive landscape and ensure products are differentiated and aligned with PlanSource’s mission.

Advanced Product Discovery & Problem Solving

  • Lead end‑to‑end product discovery using established frameworks (e.g., opportunity‑solution trees, design sprints, experimentation).
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative inputs—including user research, client advisory feedback, support data, and market analysis—into clear product decisions.
  • Define success metrics, hypotheses, and learning plans to guide solution development.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate discovery by synthesizing research, identifying behavioral patterns, and supporting scenario analysis, while applying critical judgment and validation.

Product Delivery & Execution Leadership

  • Partner closely with engineering and design leads in an agile environment to deliver high‑quality, scalable product outcomes.
  • Own backlog prioritization, sequencing, and trade‑off decisions to maximize impact.
  • Define clear product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for complex features and initiatives.
  • Partner with release management and operations to ensure smooth launches, adoption, and post‑release evaluation.

Data, Metrics & AI‑Enabled Insight

  • Define, monitor, and analyze product performance metrics to assess outcomes and inform iteration.
  • Use data to evaluate product success, uncover risks, and guide prioritization decisions.
  • Apply AI‑enabled analytics tools to support trend analysis, experimentation insights, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring outputs are reviewed and responsibly applied.
  • Translate insights into clear recommendations and narratives for stakeholders.

Cross‑Functional Leadership & Influence

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, Client Management, Operations, and Business Operations to align on product value and go‑to‑market strategy.
  • Influence stakeholders across the organization through clear communication, strong reasoning, and product expertise.
  • Communicate product strategy, progress, and outcomes to executive, technical, and non‑technical audiences.
  • Serve as a role model for strong product thinking, collaboration, and ownership.

Process, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously evaluate and improve product development processes, discovery practices, and documentation standards.
  • Use AI tools to support backlog refinement, documentation, and synthesis of inputs where appropriate, while retaining accountability for decisions.
  • Promote a culture of experimentation, learning, and outcome‑driven delivery.
  • Uphold and model PlanSource values, including curiosity, urgency, reliability, and service.

Success Indicators

  • Product areas deliver measurable customer and business impact.
  • Product strategy and roadmaps are clear, prioritized, and well aligned with company goals.
  • Complex features and initiatives are delivered successfully and adopted by users.

About You

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, Design, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of product management or related experience.
  • Proven experience owning products through the full lifecycle, including discovery, delivery, and iteration.
  • Experience in SaaS or technology environments; health benefits or HR technology experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong product judgment and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to break down complex problems and drive clear decisions.
  • Advanced experience working with cross‑functional teams, including engineering, design, QA, and customer‑facing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data and metrics.
  • Proficiency with product tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
  • Effective and responsible use of AI tools to enhance discovery, analysis, and productivity.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
