The Senior Field DDC Engineer leads the deployment, commissioning, and optimization of Delta Controls building automation systems in mission-critical data centers. They provide technical guidance to junior engineers and manage complex workstreams while remaining hands-on with programming and system integration.
About the role:
The Senior Field DDC Engineer is an experienced technical contributor responsible for leading the deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of Delta Controls DDC-based building automation systems for mission-critical data center environments. This role serves as the primary technical resource on complex DDC projects, providing guidance to Field DDC Engineers while remaining highly hands-on in GCL+ programming, enteliWEB deployment, system integration, and commissioning.
The Senior Field DDC Engineer independently leads complex DDC implementations, mentors junior engineers, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and partners with project teams to ensure successful project execution. While this role provides technical leadership, it does not carry direct people management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced DDC Programming & Technical Execution
Lead development, configuration, deployment, and commissioning of complex Delta Controls DDC systems for data center BMS and EPMS applications
Program advanced GCL+ control logic including complex HVAC sequences, equipment staging, alarm handling, scheduling, trending, and system recovery
Configure Delta Controls enteliWEB environments including graphics, navigation, dashboards, user roles, and system connectivity
· Develop and maintain controller databases, I/O structures, device bindings, and network configurations
Lead integration with PLCs, Ignition SCADA, Kepware, OPC UA, BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP, and third-party systems
Perform advanced troubleshooting of communications, data integrity, GCL+ logic, hardware, and performance issues
Validate complete DDC system functionality through commissioning, point-to-point testing, and customer acceptance
Technical Leadership
Serve as the technical lead on assigned DDC projects without direct people management responsibilities
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Field DDC Engineers
Review engineering work for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards
Assist with complex design decisions and technical problem solving
Act as primary escalation point for difficult technical issues before involving the Lead Field DDC Engineer
Share knowledge through coaching, documentation, and hands-on field training
Project Leadership
Independently manage complex DDC workstreams from design through commissioning and turnover
Coordinate technical activities with Project Managers, Controls Engineers, field personnel, and customers
Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans
Support project scheduling by identifying engineering dependencies and priorities
Participate in customer meetings and technical design reviews
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Drive adherence to company DDC development standards and engineering best practices
Develop reusable GCL+ code libraries, enteliWEB templates, and engineering standards
Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Stay current on Delta Controls platform enhancements and emerging BAS technologies
Recommend improvements to engineering processes and deployment methodologies
Qualifications:
Required
7+ years of hands-on DDC programming or building automation experience with strong Delta Controls focus
Expert knowledge of Delta Controls GCL+ programming, controller configuration, and enteliWEB deployment
Extensive experience commissioning BAS, BMS, and EPMS systems in field environments
Advanced knowledge of BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP, and network configuration
Strong troubleshooting skills across DDC applications, networking, and system integrations
Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects without direct supervisory responsibility
Experience mentoring or coaching engineers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to travel 50–60%, including extended site assignments
Valid driver's license; domestic and international travel as needed
OSHA 10 certification within the past two years (training provided if needed within first week)
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Controls, or related technical field
Delta Controls Fundamentals and Advanced Applications certification
Experience with Ignition SCADA, Kepware, OPC UA, or historian integrations
Experience in mission-critical data centers, hyperscale infrastructure, or high-availability environments
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for building automation and OT environments
Experience developing engineering standards and programming best practices
Familiarity with server setup, virtual machines, or OT network configurations
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel frequently to job sites by car or plane, up to 60%
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout job sites for extended periods
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and lifts as required
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small components
Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment when required (hard hat, vest, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots)
Visual keenness to read schematics, labels, and digital displays
Ability to visually identify and differentiate wires by assigned color
Ability to hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions
Capability to safely operate hand and power tools
