Position Summary

This position owns Microsoft Fabric at Waterfield Tech. The Senior Fabric Administrator & Analytics Engineer stands the platform up end-to-end — tenant, capacity, workspaces, security, governance, and ALM — and builds the data-engineering backbone that brings Dynamics 365 and other enterprise sources into OneLake through Fabric Link and a Medallion architecture. The same person then designs the Gold layer, authors the semantic models, ships the Power BI dashboards, and enables the Copilot experiences that Sales, Finance, Project Operations, HR, and Customer Support use to make decisions.

This is an unusual combination. Most candidates bring either platform-administration depth or BI and analytics depth, rarely both. The mandate is to make the platform safe, governed, reliable, and cost-efficient — and then to prove its value by shipping the analytics on top of it. We are looking for someone who has personally migrated a customer onto Fabric, configured Fabric Link against Dynamics 365, built the Bronze → Silver → Gold lakehouse, authored the semantic model, shipped the dashboards, and enabled Copilot over the result.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design, build-out, and day-two operations of Microsoft Fabric for Waterfield Tech.
  • Administer the Fabric tenant — admin-portal settings, domains, workspace taxonomy, role assignments, and tenant-level security posture.
  • Manage F-SKU capacity — sizing, autoscale, pause and resume where appropriate, and ongoing cost monitoring.
  • Configure and operate Fabric Link for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Dataverse, bringing data into OneLake through no-ETL shortcuts.
  • Design and build the Medallion Architecture — Bronze (raw via shortcuts), Silver (cleansed, MDM, data quality), and Gold (analytics-ready).
  • Implement Master Data Management — validation tables, dynamic data-quality scripts, deduplication, enrichment, and golden-record creation.
  • Stand up and operate Microsoft Purview — unified catalog, lineage, data classification, sensitivity labels, endorsements, business glossary, and data dictionary.
  • Implement platform security — Row-Level Security, Object-Level Security, Role-Based Access Control, on-premises and VNET data gateways, and sensitivity labelling.
  • Develop Power BI semantic models and dashboards across Sales (global sales, invoice, product line), Finance (AP/AR aging, cash flow, days-to-pay versus collect), Project Operations (cost, budget, forecast, invoice), HR, Inventory, Production, and Quality/OEE.
  • Enable AI and Copilot across Fabric workloads — Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, and Power BI — and explore Azure ML and Azure AI Studio integrations for predictive use cases.
  • Own ALM and DevOps for Fabric — Git integration, deployment pipelines, environment promotion across Dev/Test/Prod, and Fabric REST API automation.
  • Produce capacity, cost, and usage dashboards, and partner with the IT Director on chargeback and showback for business units.
  • Partner with the IT Director, business stakeholders, and the AI / Product team to prioritise the backlog, run demos, and drive adoption.
  • Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and data-stewardship documentation, and onboard future analytics engineers and BI developers onto the platform.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years delivering Microsoft data-platform work, including proven experience migrating customers or workloads onto Microsoft Fabric. Be ready to walk through at least one end-to-end migration you personally led — source systems, architecture decisions, cutover approach, and outcomes.
  • Microsoft Fabric administration. Tenant and admin-portal configuration, F-SKU capacity sizing and autoscale, workspace taxonomy, role assignments, domains, and tenant-level security settings.
  • OneLake, Direct Lake, Parquet, and Delta Lake. Deep familiarity with OneLake shortcuts and mirrored databases, and with how Direct Lake differs from Import and DirectQuery for Power BI.
  • Medallion Architecture implementation. Hands-on Bronze, Silver, and Gold design; you should be comfortable defending your layer boundaries.
  • Fabric Link for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Dataverse. Hands-on configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting — not just familiarity.
  • Synapse-in-Fabric data engineering. Pipelines, Notebooks (Python, Spark, SQL), Spark Jobs, SQL Serverless, Mapping Dataflows, and the Fabric Data Warehouse.
  • Microsoft Purview. Unified catalog, lineage, classification, sensitivity labels, endorsements (Certified and Promoted), business glossary, data dictionary, and data stewardship.
  • Master Data Management and data-quality delivery. Validation tables, dynamic DQ scripts, deduplication, enrichment, and golden-record patterns.
  • Power BI delivery at a developer level. DAX, Power Query M, star-schema semantic models, Row-Level Security, and the Pro / PPU / Premium / Embedded licensing model.
  • Azure source-system integration. Azure Data Lake Gen 2, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Blob Storage, REST and HTTP endpoints, and file-based sources.
  • Platform security and data governance fundamentals. Practical experience applying RLS, OLS, RBAC, and gateways, with awareness of GDPR, HIPAA, and comparable regulatory frameworks.
  • DevOps for Fabric. Git integration, deployment pipelines, Fabric REST API automation, and environment promotion.
  • Scripting. PowerShell, plus at minimum intermediate Python, Spark (PySpark), and T-SQL.
  • Communication. Professional written and spoken English, and the ability to run a demo, defend an architecture decision to a non-technical audience, and translate a business question into a data model.
  • Documentation discipline. Architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and stewardship documentation produced as part of the work rather than after it.
  • Education. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Preferred Microsoft certifications: DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate), DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer Associate), DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer Associate), DP-500 (Azure Enterprise Data Analyst Associate), and PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst Associate). AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect Expert) is a bonus.
  • The following are strongly preferred rather than required:
  • Power BI developer depth — advanced DAX (time intelligence, complex iterators, UDFs, calculation groups), composite models, aggregations, incremental refresh, Tabular Editor 2/3, DAX Studio, and VertiPaq Analyzer.
  • AI and Fabric — production use of Copilot for Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, and Power BI; Azure Machine Learning; Azure AI Studio; and natural-language-to-SQL and text-to-DAX patterns.
  • Dimensional modeling mastery — Kimball methodology, star and snowflake schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions (Types 1, 2, and 3), role-playing dimensions, bridge and factless fact tables, and Common Data Model alignment.
  • Real-Time Intelligence — Data Activator triggers and actions, KQL/Kusto, event-stream ingestion, and IoT and sensor telemetry patterns.
  • Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations module depth — Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Warehouse Management, Production, Quality, Project Operations, and Finance data models.
  • Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code — PowerShell, Fabric REST APIs, and IaC approaches for Fabric (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM), including self-service capacity provisioning.
  • Cost optimisation — capacity right-sizing, workload scheduling, and chargeback and showback reporting.
  • Consulting or MSP experience — exposure to Microsoft Solution Partner engagements or systems-integrator delivery models.
  • Engagement: full-time and permanent, working remotely from an offshore location.
  • Time-zone overlap: a minimum of four hours per day of overlap with US Central Time. Waterfield Tech is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • Reports to the IT Director, and works alongside Sales, Marketing, Project Operations, Finance, Professional Services, Customer Support, HR, and the AI / Product team.
  • Availability to work flexible hours as needed.

Physical Requirements

  1. Sitting: Ability to be able to sit for long periods of time.
  2. Lifting: Ability to lift equipment and or tools up to 20 pounds.
