Senior Director Software Engineering - Evernorth Health Services

Role Summary

We are seeking a transformational Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead the strategy, delivery, modernization, and operational excellence of the technology platforms supporting Claims and Intelligence Solutions. This leader will be accountable for platform engineering, DevSecOps, AI-first software development practices, cloud infrastructure, and the resiliency of both mainframe and distributed application ecosystems.

Operating at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and operations, this role ensures that platform investments align with enterprise priorities, regulatory requirements, and measurable business outcomes. The Senior Director will drive the adoption of modern engineering practices, accelerate AI-enabled software development lifecycle (SDLC) capabilities, and foster a culture of innovation, automation, security, and continuous improvement.

The role is responsible for building and sustaining secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud and application platforms that enable agile product delivery while maintaining operational stability for critical business functions. Success requires balancing modernization initiatives, run-the-business excellence, risk management, and value realization across a complex technology landscape.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical credibility with engineering teams, a proven track record of leading large-scale transformation initiatives, and the executive presence required to influence senior business, operations, and technology leaders across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Execution:

• Define and execute the technology vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for Claims and Intelligence Solutions platforms
• Lead strategic technology decisions across operational excellence, platform modernization, and enterprise transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term architectural direction.
• Drive the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional programs spanning multiple product, engineering, operations, and business teams, effectively balancing competing priorities, dependencies, risks, and value realization.
• Partner with business, operations, and technology leaders to prioritize investments, accelerate innovation, and deliver measurable outcomes that improve customer, provider, and enterprise experiences.
• Establish clear execution frameworks, governance, and accountability mechanisms to ensure predictable delivery, operational resilience, and continuous improvement across the portfolio.
• Champion the adoption and maturation of modern engineering practices and architectures, including API-first design, cloud-native platforms, event-driven architectures, infrastructure automation, DevSecOps, and AI-enabled software development capabilities.

Portfolio & Financial Planning:

• Serve as a key technology leader in portfolio planning, investment strategy, and annual budgeting processes across the Claims and Intelligence Solutions domain.
• Partner closely with finance, business, and operations leaders to develop compelling business cases, investment strategies, and value realization plans that align technology investments with enterprise priorities.
• Establish governance and performance frameworks to monitor financial performance, benefits realization, cost efficiency, and return on investment across the technology portfolio.
• Drive portfolio transparency and accountability through effective planning, forecasting, resource management, and executive reporting processes.
• Business & Operations Partnership:
• Serve as the senior technology partner to Claims Operations and business leadership, translating strategic business objectives into scalable technology solutions that align with enterprise priorities and long-term business outcomes.
• Foster strong partnerships across business and technology organizations to accelerate innovation, improve operational efficiency, and drive measurable business value through technology investments. 

Required Qualifications:

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience delivering scalable, resilient technology platforms and leading enterprise modernization and transformation initiatives.
• Strong expertise in healthcare claims and provider technologies, with a proven ability to lead complex portfolios and drive cross-functional execution across business, operations, and technology organizations.
• Demonstrated executive presence, strategic thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, shape investment decisions, and translate technical strategy into business value.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience within healthcare payer organizations, including familiarity with claims processing platforms, provider ecosystems, and regulatory environments.
• Experience driving modernization through cloud transformation, AI-enabled capabilities, automation, and enterprise technology transformation programs.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 195,000 - 325,000 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
