Senior Business Analyst

The Senior Business Analyst operates as a senior/lead team member of a consulting team, assisting assigned Insurance Carrier project teams (“our clients”) to implement, integrate, leverage and enhance the SuranceBay platform.  The role primarily involves consultative activity to understand and align client objectives with the platform capabilities and leading teams to configure, learn, implement and manage the platform to run their business.  This is a full-time remote work position, with the potential for periodic travel to client locations.  The Senior Business Analyst works autonomously and uses sound judgment to solve problems, support the client and SuranceBay team members and collaborate with SuranceBay product owners and SMEs.  They handle the most complex and crucial tasks that are vital to the organization.

Responsibilities

• Project engagement: May oversee, direct or participate on concurrent project assignments, ensuring they meet company goals and industry standards. Manage schedules, prioritize and assign stories to team members to accomplish targets and deliverables. Lead design sessions on business functionality and product logic with clients.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with business, development, QA, and operations teams to collect requirements, offer recommendations, and align project objectives.
• Market Expertise: Leverage in-depth knowledge of the life insurance and annuity markets in the areas of distribution management and compliance to recommend best practices and recognize trends that may impact strategic and operational direction.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a lead contact between stakeholders and project teams. Ensure transparency, manage expectations, and support decision-making with clear information. 
• Process Improvement: Identify areas for process optimization and drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. Implement best practices and recommend tools or systems to streamline workflows and improve service delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, or a related field (master’s degree or certifications are a plus).
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in business analysis or consulting and working as part of agile teams driving technology improvements and implementations.

• Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools, such as SQL, Excel, JIRA, Confluence, and business intelligence applications (experience with SureLC is a strong preference).

  Life Insurance domain knowledge

  • Knowledge of life insurance distribution management frameworks and compliance requirements, including producer and IMO/BGA licensing, contracting, training, and credentialing for life, annuities, Medicare supplement, and group insurance. Knowledge of distribution hierarchies and how compensation agreements are structured.
• Client Requirement Elicitation
  • Problem Identification & Solution Framing- Analyzing client challenges and translating them into actionable insurance solutions. 
  • Ability to use a consultative and solutioning approach. This means advising clients not just on what they ask for, but also helping them discover alternatives that could suffice their requirements.
• Business Analysis and Requirements Management
  • Expertise in gathering both functional and non-functional requirements including use of business process flows, user stories, use cases, and functional specifications. Ability to analyze and prioritize client requirements, ensuring that business needs are clearly articulated and translated into system or product features. 
  • Identify gaps between client requirements and insurance component capabilities and propose adjustments to meet client needs.  Advise clients on how existing products can be configured to meet their needs or propose new products to fill the gaps.
• Solution Design and Product Alignment
  • Experience with Agile. This includes user story mapping, business requirement definition, and working with technical teams for implementation. 
  • Manage change to ensure a smooth transition, both from technological and user adoption perspectives.
• Data Analysis Solution Optimization and Continuous Improvement
  • Use data to understand client behavior, identify patterns, and offer solutions. Identify opportunities for process optimization and product improvements. 
• Soft Skills and Personal Attributes
  • Strong analytical skills to breakdown complex client needs and match them to appropriate solutions in a structured manner. Ability to negotiate terms with clients, ensuring that the solutions provided are feasible and meet the client’s expectations. 
  • A strong focus on delivering value to clients, ensuring that their needs are prioritized while balancing operational and regulatory constraints. Be flexible in adapting solutions to meet changing client needs, market conditions, or regulatory changes. 
  • Communication & Presentation: Excellent communication skills, particularly in articulating complex product features and benefits to clients in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
• Technical skills
  • Ability to write SQL queries to aid in configuring account settings, validating data, and supporting decision-making by discerning actionable insights.
  • Ability to analyze and parse XML files ensuring business processes and data are accurate and consistent.
  • Expertise or ability to learn how to look through software logs for troubleshooting, identifying system errors and ensuring the proper functioning of business processes.
