Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Azure Administrator to provide senior-level operational and technical support across the Platform Azure team, replacing an existing Azure analyst role. The role will support multiple UK and ROI customers across Microsoft Azure, hybrid infrastructure, on-premises virtualisation and backup platforms, automation, monitoring, security, and service management activities. The successful candidate will be expected to act as a senior technical escalation point, contribute to service reliability, maintain strong documentation, and support continuous improvement across customer environments.
- Provide senior Azure administration and infrastructure support across multiple managed service customers and technologies.
- Act as an escalation point for Azure, Windows, identity, networking, monitoring, backup, and infrastructure-related incidents and service requests.
- Support and maintain Azure services including virtual machines, storage, networking, Azure Active Directory, Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Monitor, backup, recovery, and security controls.
- Work with customers and internal teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, design practical solutions, and implement service improvements.
- Support hybrid and on-premises environments including VMware, ESXi, Commvault, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Office 365, and related infrastructure components.
- Maintain and improve operational documentation, runbooks, technical designs, support procedures, and knowledge articles.
- Operate within structured ITIL and ISO20000 service management processes, including incident, problem, change, and request management.
- Contribute to automation, Infrastructure-as-Code, standardisation, patching, monitoring, alerting, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the Platform Azure team.
- Provide clear customer-facing updates, technical explanations, and reporting for incidents, changes, risks, and service improvement activity.
- 7+ years’ experience working in IT infrastructure, managed services, or cloud operations.
- Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting Microsoft Azure environments in production.
- Hands-on experience supporting on-premises infrastructure platforms, including ESXi, VMware virtualisation, and Commvault backup and recovery solutions.
- Experience supporting enterprise customers across incident, problem, change, request, and service improvement activities.
- Ability to interpret, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues across cloud, identity, server, networking, monitoring, and security domains.
- Strong understanding of ITIL practices and experience working in a controlled managed service environment.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly with customers, technical teams, service managers, and stakeholders.
- Experience producing high-quality documentation, technical notes, support guides, and customer-facing updates.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, manage escalations, and support multiple customer environments concurrently.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team knowledge sharing.
- Relevant Microsoft Azure certification such as AZ-104 is desirable; broader cloud, ITIL, security, or automation certifications would be advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Azure administration including virtual machines, storage, virtual networks, NSGs, VPNs, Azure Firewall, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Monitor, and Azure Security tooling.
- Identity and access management experience including Azure Active Directory, Active Directory, RBAC, conditional access, and privileged access concepts.
- Windows Server administration, DNS, DHCP, patching, troubleshooting, and operational support across customer environments.
- Hybrid and on-premises infrastructure experience including VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, Commvault backup and recovery, Office 365, networking, backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions.
- Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code exposure using PowerShell, Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Ansible.
- Monitoring, logging, and alerting experience using tools such as Azure Monitor, Splunk, Opsview, New Relic, or equivalent platforms.
- Security and network awareness including WAFs, firewalls, vulnerability remediation, access control, backup validation, and operational risk management.
- Experience supporting Azure Virtual Desktop, Kubernetes, App Gateways, landing zones, or cost optimisation would be advantageous.
