AI Summary

The Senior Accounting Consultant will guide law firm clients through the implementation, configuration, and optimization of their billing and accounting systems. They will also serve as a financial expert, providing training to staff and managing projects from initial kickoff through final go-live.

Are you our next Senior Accounting Consultant?

Are you the one who stays calm when the books are a mess, because you've untangled worse?

Does it excite you to think about turning a law firm's billing headaches into a system they actually trust?

Do you love taking a firm's financials and turning them into a story the partners want to hear?

Have you spent real time in the weeds of law firm accounting: trust accounting, client/matter billing, or platforms like Centerbase, Orion, ProLaw, or Tabs3?

Our team offers digital and business transformation to law firms and legal organizations, and we are looking for a Senior Accounting Consultant who can help us guide law firm clients through implementing, optimizing, and truly understanding their billing and accounting systems.

What we do.

At Affinity Consulting Group, we offer digital and business transformations to law firms and legal departments. We are their trusted advisers and work with them to build business strategies, create better teams and processes, and implement technology to run a healthy business.

What you would do (unofficially).

This position is all about solving problems and making clients happier than they were when they called you. In practice, that means being the calm voice on the call when a client discovers their trust and operating accounts have been quietly out of sync for months, turning "why does accounting hate me" into "oh, that actually makes sense now," and making sure a room full of attorneys leaves your training genuinely understanding what they just learned - not just nodding along.

What you would do (officially).

As a Senior Accounting Consultant, your ultimate responsibility is to serve as Affinity's operational and financial expert on legal billing and accounting. That means guiding law firm clients through implementing, configuring, and optimizing their billing and accounting systems, while advising them on the financial and operational side of running their firm. Along the way, you'll apply and explain core accounting principles, support clients on trust accounting and financial reporting, train attorneys and staff, and manage implementation projects from kickoff through go-live.

Your responsibilities.

  • Serve as an operational expert on legal billing and accounting software platforms, guiding clients through implementation, configuration, and optimization.
  • Advise clients on the financial and operational side of running a law firm, including billing workflows, efficiency improvements, and friction points across the client-to-cash cycle.
  • Apply and explain core accounting principles - general ledger structure, journal entries, and financial statements - so clients understand the "why" behind their numbers, not just the mechanics.
  • Guide clients on foundational matter management concepts, including client and matter intake, referral tracking, and numbering, and how they connect to trust accounting.
  • Understand how payroll integrates with the general ledger, including payroll journal entries, without requiring hands-on payroll system administration.
  • Support clients with trust accounting practices as they relate to billing, matters, and engagement letters.
  • Lead training sessions for attorneys and staff, translating technical billing and accounting concepts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Manage implementation and consulting projects from kickoff through go-live, including scoping, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication.
  • Partner with the sales team during the pre-sale stage, helping prospective clients understand how Affinity will make their firm operationally better.
  • Partner with clients on financial reporting engagements, helping them interpret, improve, and act on their financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Mid-Market Implementations team and provide status updates and escalations to the Director of Implementations.

Your first 90 days.

In your initial 90 days, you'll get up to speed on the legal billing and accounting platforms we work in most and how our Mid-Market Implementations team operates, shadow live client engagements to see our implementation and training process in action, and begin owning smaller pieces of client work - from configuration questions to leading your first training session - with support from the Director of Implementations.

What we're looking for.

We hire talented people based on a track record of accomplishments, intellectual curiosity, and alignment with our Core Values.

The one thing we need: direct, hands-on experience with law firm accounting or billing - working in a law firm's accounting function, or consulting/implementing on legal billing platforms. This isn't a fit for legal assistants, paralegals, or law firm administrative staff without direct accounting or billing responsibility, and it isn't a fit for general accounting or bookkeeping experience without any law firm exposure.

Beyond that, experience training non-technical audiences on financial or technical concepts is a real plus, as is a background helping firms implement or optimize their systems from the ground up.

More about us and details you'll want to know.

We're Affinity and Lawyerist (one team; two brands) and we're changing the legal industry by working with legal professionals to create healthy businesses and better lives. In addition to strategic consulting and coaching, implementing technology, and training, we have the Lawyerist Podcast, two best-selling books, do a ton of speaking, and remain active in our industry.

We take pride in our work. We're proud of the amazing people on our team who bring their whole selves to work each day. We genuinely love to hear each other's best personal news each week, but also make space if someone needs support. We laugh a lot and know a good deal about each other's lives despite being a distributed team thousands of miles apart.

We also share a commitment to these Core Values:

  • Be Inclusive.
  • Act with Integrity.
  • Grab the Marker.
  • Stay Curious.
  • Drive Change.

The final salary offered will be dependent on the candidate's experience and location. This comprehensive package is designed to reward expertise and incentivize performance, aligning with our commitment to recognize and support our team's growth and success.

We're 100% remote so we expect you to have reliable internet, a dedicated professional workspace, and the ability to travel to meetings/conferences typically 5-7 times a year. We work 8:30-5 ET, M-F (w/ flexibility). This is a full-time position. Benefits include health & dental, LTD/STD and life, 401(k) matching, Employee Assistance Program, fitness budget, flexible vacation, and a great team of people you'll be proud to work with.

We embrace diversity and invite applications from people from all walks of life. We're honest and recognize our team isn't as diverse as it should be, and we're trying to change that. If you're worried your years of experience, your specific software background, or a non-traditional career path might not check every box, please apply anyway - we'd rather have an extra application to consider than have you screen yourself out.

We don't discriminate based on gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, religion, age, national origin, citizenship, disability, pregnancy status, veteran status, or other differences. Also, if you have a disability and there's a way we can make the interview process better, let us know (jobs@affinityconsulting.com w/ the subject line "Senior Accounting Consultant Accommodations"). We're happy to accommodate.
