Remote MRI Scanning Manager

Job Summary

The Remote Scanning Manager sits above the remote MRI steering technologist team and reports to the Director of Operations within Alpha RT, RadNet's remote MRI scanning division. This is an operations-focused role: the Remote Scanning Manager owns the day-to-day operational performance of the remote technologist workforce — scheduling and coverage, workflow efficiency, and image quality — and serves as the primary operational point of contact between the remote technologist team and the Director of Operations. This role has negligible direct patient interaction and is instead centered on keeping remote scanning operations running smoothly, resolving issues in real time, and driving continuous improvement in image quality and workflow. Coaching and development of individual technologists is part of the role, but the primary mandate is operational: ensuring reliable coverage, strong throughput, and consistently high-quality output across Alpha RT's remote scanning hubs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Own end-to-end scheduling and staffing operations for the remote technologist team across all Alpha RT command center hubs.
• Drive measurable, process-level improvement in image quality across the remote scanning operation.
• Serve as the primary operational escalation point and right hand to the Director of Operations.
• Coach and develop remote technologists to support consistent operational performance.
• Owns end-to-end scheduling for the remote technologist team, building, adjusting, and approving schedules across command center hubs and time zones to ensure adequate coverage for scan volume.
• Manages daily shift coverage, call-outs, and swap requests, and serves as the primary escalation point for staffing and scheduling issues during live remote scanning operations.
• Actively monitors remote scanning operations in real time for coverage gaps, workflow bottlenecks, or breakdowns, and resolves issues proactively to keep operations running smoothly.
• Partners with the Director of Operations to forecast staffing needs based on site volume, seasonality, and program growth.
• Coordinates cross-hub and cross-shift coverage during PTO, call-outs, or volume surges, promoting flexibility in staff utilization.
• Identifies, triages, and escalates technical, equipment, or connectivity issues that impact remote scanning operations at command center hubs or partner sites.
• Collaborates with on-site assistants, referring facilities, and radiologists to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent patient throughput despite the technologist's remote role.
• Builds, maintains, and continuously improves SOPs governing remote scanning workflows, escalation paths, and shift-coverage processes.
• Acts on behalf of the Director of Operations when he/she is unavailable.
• Leads or supports operational projects and initiatives assigned by the Director of Operations.
• Adheres to all OSHA regulations, RadNet practices, and generally accepted safety protocols.
• Drives continuous, measurable improvement of image quality across the remote technologist team through structured QA review.
• Reviews radiologist feedback and QA findings, identifies quality and workflow trends across the operation, and implements corrective action plans at the process level.
• Establishes and monitors image quality metrics (e.g., repeat/reject rates, protocol compliance, QA scores) and reports trends to the Director of Operations.
• Leads root-cause analysis for recurring quality or safety issues and drives process changes to prevent recurrence.
• Develops and refines remote MRI protocols and technologist reference materials (e.g., quick-reference guides, patient protocol memos) to standardize quality across the team.
• Reports and documents safety events, incidents, or exposures using RadNet/Alpha RT QA tracking tools.
• Sets clear expectations and performance objectives for the remote technologist team and the department.
• Conducts coaching sessions with remote technologists to reinforce protocol adherence, imaging technique, and operational standards.
• Onboards and trains new remote technologists on Alpha RT systems, remote steering workflows, and site-specific protocols.
• Provides the Director of Operations with input and feedback on hiring decisions for remote technologist positions.
• Recognizes and provides coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline as appropriate, escalating to the Director of Operations as needed.
• Keeps the remote technologist team informed of protocol updates, policy changes, and operational developments across Alpha RT.
• Maintains a minimum level of team member turnover through engagement, support, and career development.
• Promotes and supports Alpha RT's and RadNet's Vision, Mission, and Values.
• Maintains current MRI technologist certification and hands-on scanning proficiency; may step into the remote steering technologist role to cover shortages or during high-volume periods.
• Applies deep understanding of MRI imaging parameters, protocols, and equipment to evaluate image quality and technical accuracy.
• Reviews exams for adherence to established MRI safety screening protocols performed by on-site staff, and escalates any concerns regarding patient safety in the MR environment.
• Consults with radiologists as needed to determine appropriate scanning protocols and resolve image quality concerns.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

• Current ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification, with active state licensure where applicable.
• Minimum 7-8 years of progressive experience as an MRI technologist required.
• Prior experience in a scheduling, workforce operations, or process-improvement capacity strongly preferred; experience leading or coordinating a technologist team preferred.
• Successful completion of an accredited radiology program or 2-year degree; bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and operations experience preferred.
• Strong proficiency with scheduling/workforce management software (e.g., Lightning Bolt) and demonstrated ability to manage coverage across a distributed, multi-site, multi-time-zone team.
• Comfortable operating in a fully remote, technology-driven scanning environment; working knowledge of remote steering and command-center workflows preferred.
• Strong operational and process-improvement mindset, with the ability to identify workflow bottlenecks and implement practical, sustainable fixes.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion in a fast-paced, real-time operations environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively across multiple sites, shifts, and time zones.
• Knowledge of state and federal health and safety regulations applicable to MRI operations.
• General computer skills and Microsoft Office proficiency; comfort with RIS/PACS and remote scanning/steering platforms.
• Must have BLS/CPR certification and maintain license and continuing education in accordance with state, federal, and regulatory agencies' rules and regulations.
• Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to interact effectively with radiologists, referring facilities, on-site staff, peers, and management.
