You will own the quality strategy for a complex mobile platform by balancing manual exploratory testing with a robust automation framework. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shift testing left and influence engineering standards for coverage and test placement.
This is a remote position.
We're looking for a QA Engineer who is equal parts hands-on tester and automation advocate. You'll own quality for a large, complex mobile platform, and you'll do it by combining sharp exploratory and manual testing with a relentless push to automate the right things at the right layer. This is not a role that sits at the end of the pipeline writing test cases. You'll work to shift testing left with developers, product, and design from the moment a story is shaped, help teams move away from a top-heavy, E2E-dependent suite toward a balanced testing model, and hold engineering teams accountable for the coverage they own. You'll build and scale the automation framework, but just as importantly you'll influence where tests live - pushing coverage down into unit, component, and contract layers so that the E2E suite stays small, fast, and trustworthy. You'll also use AI-augmented tooling to accelerate test design, triage, and automation development, and you'll bring ideas for how quality engineering should evolve across a distributed, multi-team environment.
Requirements
• 5+ years of professional QA / quality engineering experience, with strong depth in both manual and automation testing. • Strong understanding of QA principles, testing methodologies, and QA processes across the SDLC/STLC. • Strong experience in test case design and testing native Android and iOS mobile applications. • Hands-on experience with Appium and Cucumber; Java strongly preferred (our stack is Appium + Java + Cucumber + BrowserStack). • Experience in integration testing and API automation, with the ability to design, develop, and maintain automated integration test suites. • Experience designing, maintaining, and scaling automation frameworks - not just writing tests inside someone else's framework. • Demonstrated judgment about test placement: knowing what belongs where being able to argue for it. • Track record of influencing engineering teams toward automation by driving adoption, setting standards, and holding others accountable without formal authority. • Comfortable using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) to improve QA productivity, test design, and automation development. • Ability to bring innovative ideas that improve quality, accelerate testing, and increase automation coverage. • Good working knowledge of Jira. • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including working effectively with distributed and vendor teams.
• Experience with contract testing and service virtualization / API mocking (e.g. Microcks). • Experience with performance, accessibility, or security testing for mobile applications. • Experience testing applications backed by a BFF or microservices architecture. • Experience with feature flags, progressive rollouts, and testing in production-like conditions. • Familiarity with mobile release processes, app store submission, and staged rollouts. • Experience with observability tooling and using logs, traces, and crash analytics to investigate defects. • Experience with headless CMS or content-driven applications.
