The Principal Product Manager leads the end-to-end product lifecycle for the SAP portfolio, including strategy, roadmap definition, and AI-enabled initiatives. They also drive internal enablement and provide technical leadership to influence engineering decisions and market execution.

Job Description:

The Principal Product Manager – SAP is a senior individual contributor responsible for end-to-end product management and technical leadership of Vertex's SAP portfolio. This role serves as the single point of accountability for the SAP portfolio across product strategy, roadmap, feature definition, AI initiatives, pricing and commercialization, and internal enablement. The Product Manager, Principal owns the full product management lifecycle from customer and market discovery through delivery and go-to-market execution, while also providing the applied SAP technical leadership needed to influence solution direction, guide engineering decisions, and drive the portfolio forward.

  • Own end-to-end product management for the SAP portfolio: define product strategy and roadmap, conduct customer and market discovery, translate needs into well-defined features with clear requirements and acceptance criteria, manage and prioritize the product backlog, and partner with Engineering and Program teams through delivery.
  • Lead AI initiatives for the SAP portfolio: identify use cases and opportunities, shape requirements, set priorities, and drive AI-enabled initiatives from concept to delivery.
  • Own pricing and packaging for SAP offerings: ensure products are priced and packaged in alignment with customer value, competitive positioning, and commercial strategy.
  • Develop clear and compelling value propositions for SAP products and solutions; articulate the business problems they solve and the value they deliver to customers and prospects.
  • Drive internal enablement across Sales, Consulting, Support, Product, and Marketing; ensure internal teams understand SAP solution capabilities, positioning, limitations, and roadmap direction.
  • Provide applied SAP technical leadership: leverage working knowledge of SAP architecture, integrations, BTP, APIs, and cloud technologies to influence solution direction, challenge technical decisions, and guide Engineering toward practical and scalable outcomes.
  • Connect product strategy to market execution by partnering across Sales, Consulting, Marketing, and partner organizations to ensure SAP solutions can be effectively positioned, sold, implemented, and supported.
  • Engage directly with customers and partners in strategic sales conversations, executive discussions, and partner forums; represent Vertex's SAP product capabilities and roadmap with technical authority and commercial credibility.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including hands-on ownership of the full product management lifecycle: customer and market discovery, product strategy, roadmap development, feature definition, requirements and acceptance criteria writing, backlog management, and delivery partnership with Engineering; demonstrated track record managing an enterprise software or SaaS product portfolio independently.
  • Deep SAP knowledge and technical credibility: working knowledge of SAP architecture, integrations, BTP, APIs, and cloud technologies sufficient to challenge technical decisions, evaluate architectural tradeoffs, and guide engineering teams toward practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency with proven ability to lead AI initiatives from opportunity identification and requirements through delivery; experience applying AI to enterprise product capabilities or customer workflows.
  • Strong commercial mindset with hands-on experience owning pricing, packaging, and value proposition development; ability to align product functionality with customer value, competitive positioning, and commercial strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer and market needs into product requirements and translate technical capabilities into clear, compelling customer value.
  • Experience engaging in strategic sales conversations, executive customer discussions, and partner forums as a product and technical subject matter expert.
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional initiatives independently across Product, Engineering, Sales, Consulting, Marketing, and partner organizations without direct reporting authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, or SAP clean core and extensibility strategies.
  • Familiarity with SAP Business AI or Joule; experience applying AI-enabled automation to enterprise workflows or cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Background in tax technology, financial compliance solutions, or e-invoicing.
  • Experience working with global SAP customers or within the SAP partner and ecosystem community, including SAP alliance and consulting organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
