ABOUT JOURNEYPURE

JourneyPure is a growing, outcomes-driven treatment organization operating multiple centers that specialize in addiction and mental health care. We offer a full continuum of services — detoxification and medical stabilization, residential treatment, outpatient treatment, continuing care, and recovery coaching — supported by a culture built on caring and clinical excellence. As we continue to expand the reach of our services, we are looking for people who want to help shape how that growth happens.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Preadmission Review Specialist supports and helps oversee the process of determining clinical appropriateness for prospective patients during admissions. Working from written clinical screenings, you will form a clinical impression, identify potential exclusionary criteria, and make facility-specific clinical approval decisions that move the admissions process forward. The role partners closely with the Patient Access Center team and maintains regular connectivity with the clinical and medical teams at every JourneyPure facility.

We are looking for someone with strong behavioral health, addiction, and psychiatric experience who can develop an accurate clinical impression quickly from written documentation. Familiarity with the medical issues commonly seen in dual-diagnosis patients is highly valuable, as is utilization review experience. Because prospective patients often present with significant medical history, a licensed nurse (RN or LPN) is preferred.

This is a relatively new position at JourneyPure. The strongest candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity, flexible as the role takes shape, and ideally bring experience building processes and protocols from the ground up.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Review written clinical screenings to develop a clinical impression and identify potential exclusionary criteria for addiction and mental health treatment; consult with or defer to clinical and medical teams when exclusionary criteria may exist.

· Make clinical approval decisions based on facility-specific criteria as one step within the broader admissions process.

· Partner with the PAC team to gather and clarify any additional information needed to reach an approval decision, maintaining consistent, responsive communication throughout.

· Establish a regular communication loop with clinical and medical staff at each facility to review cases and continually improve the effectiveness of the approval process.

· Develop and deliver training that helps the PAC team collect and document clinical information from prospective patients more effectively.

· Identify productivity and workflow challenges within the system and collaborate with teammates on solution-focused processes and procedures.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (AS THE ROLE DEVELOPS)

· Quality assurance — conducting audits of preadmission screening quality and providing real-time coaching to strengthen documentation.

· Utilization review — assessing cases against medical necessity criteria and completing pre-certifications for unique cases and payers.

· Special projects — supporting administrative and reporting initiatives as needs arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

· Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

· Active, unencumbered nursing license (RN or LPN).

· Ability to interpret written clinical assessments and form a sound clinical impression independently and efficiently.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, solution-oriented approach.

Preferred

· Experience in substance use and mental health disorder treatment; experience in other behavioral health or psychiatric settings will also be considered.

· Background in admissions or intake, and experience working from written clinical assessments.

· Utilization review experience and familiarity with medical necessity criteria.

· Exposure to the medical conditions commonly seen in dual-diagnosis populations.

· Experience developing processes, protocols, or training materials in a growing organization.

SCHEDULE, TRAVEL & WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Full-time position with on-call shifts; preadmission reviews may occasionally be conducted on nights or weekends.

· Limited travel to our Murfreesboro, TN; Knoxville, TN; and Panama City Beach, FL facilities at the outset of the role to learn facility-specific criteria.

· For the right candidate with a proven record of working remotely, a fully remote arrangement will be considered.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

JourneyPure offers a competitive salary commensurate with education, experience, and overall strength of the candidate. Full-time employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, along with generous paid time off.
