Performance Test Engineer

Our dynamic Byte Platform is rapidly growing as we optimize our digital ordering channels and drive technology innovations that create competitive advantages for our restaurants around the globe. We are seeking a Performance Engineer who can effectively contribute to performance testing efforts that support our Byte Platform offerings.

As a Performance Engineer, you will work on complex distributed systems, databases, and large clustered datasets, with a focus on optimizing overall product performance. You will collaborate with Development, Quality Engineering, and Product teams to deliver high-quality initiatives across our products throughout their development life cycles.

The key qualities we’re looking for are strong problem-solving skills and a natural curiosity to dig deeper, understand systems, and learn how they are wired together. This person will have experience with performance analysis, along with the ability to develop custom analysis and performance testing tools.

Responsibilities

You Will:

1. Report to a QE Manager.
2. Partner with Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product, and SRE teams to review requirements, identify performance risks, execute performance tests, and troubleshoot performance-related issues.
3. Design, develop, and execute performance test strategies, scenarios, and workloads based on business events, system architecture, and scalability requirements.
4. Analyze performance test results, application metrics, logs, traces, and infrastructure data to identify bottlenecks and performance improvement opportunities.
5. Maintain and enhance performance testing frameworks, tooling, automation, and best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and coverage.
6. Evaluate system scalability, reliability, and capacity under varying workloads, and provide data-driven recommendations for performance optimization.
7. Communicate performance findings, risks, bottlenecks, and recommendations to Engineering, Product, SRE, and leadership stakeholders.
8. Contribute to performance engineering practices, methodologies, capacity planning efforts, and platform performance standards.
9. Partner with Engineering and SRE teams to improve application performance, scalability, resiliency, and resource utilization.
10. Enable and guide POD teams by providing performance testing frameworks, documentation, mentoring, and best practices for service-level performance ownership.
11. Identify gaps, risks, and process inefficiencies, and proactively drive continuous improvements across performance testing workflows and practices.

12. Develop, maintain, and optimize performance test assets, including scripts, test data, environments, monitoring dashboards, and configurations, while supporting the ongoing performance certification of the Byte Platform.

Qualifications

You Have:

1. A bachelor’s in CS, CIS, engineering, or equivalent experience.
2. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in performance engineering.
3. 3+ years of experience with code-first performance testing tool k6 and performance analysis via Datadog or similar platforms.
4. Advanced coding skills in JavaScript or TypeScript.
5. 3+ years of hands-on experience working with microservices architectures, including RESTful and GraphQL APIs and web applications.
6. Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and Kubernetes, including monitoring, scaling, and troubleshooting.
7. Proven ability to perform profile/baseline, load and stress testing, soak, spike testing etc.
8. Proven ability to drill down into results and complete deep dive root cause analysis.
9. Strong technical communication and documentation skills.

Salary Range: $109,400 to $128,600 annually + bonus eligibility. This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.
