Patient Account Representative

The Patient Account Representative position is responsible for taking incoming and making outgoing calls to patients and insurance companies to resolve account balances.  Essential duties: account review, customer service and billing.  Positions will perform all related duties assigned. This job operates in a clerical office setting.

Responsibilities:

• Complete all business-related requests and correspondence from patients and insurance companies.
• Complete all assigned projects in a timely manner.
• Assist clients and patients in all requested tasks.
• Communicate with management, areas of concern or areas of improvement.
• Performs various collection actions including the following and reporting of delinquent accounts to the collection agency.
• Posts payments and prepares daily deposit.
• Research and respond to all patient inquiries received by telephone and mail.
• Update patient demographic information and initiate account adjustments.
• Try to resolve account balances to zero prior to accounts being forwarded to an outside agency for collections.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Participates in educational activities and attends department staff meetings.
• Conducts oneself in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Maintains strict confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines.
• Must have access to fast access internet 

Skills

• Ability to operate basic office equipment and multi-line telephone system.
• General understanding of professional fee billing processes and procedures.
• Proficient in analyzing statistical data.

• Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with providers, staff and the public.

Required Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Strong customer service background 
• 1-to 2 years of Medical Reception, Medical Billing/coding, or High-Volume Call experience is preferred
