The National Director, Workplace Giving & Engagement is responsible for driving the national strategy to maximize revenue through employee giving and employer matching gift programs. This strategic leader will serve as the organization’s expert on workplace giving trends, tools, and technologies, and will partner across departments to maximize revenue opportunities. The National Director will oversee forecasting, campaign development, corporate prospecting, and cross-channel activation efforts, ensuring that workplace giving and matching gifts continues to grow as a significant and sustainable source of revenue for Breakthrough T1D.

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Develop and lead a national strategy to significantly grow workplace giving and matching gift revenue across all programs and events.
  • Serve as Breakthrough T1D’s subject matter expert on workplace giving and matching gifts programs, trends, and platforms.
  • Establish high-level vendor relationships and oversee platform strategy to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Set annual revenue goals, develop multi-year forecasts, and oversee financial planning and performance tracking for the program.
  • Track and assess national KPIs; use insights to adjust strategy and set financial goals.
  • Lead the development of external-facing matching gift communications, including emails, web content, and platform messaging, to increase donor participation and match conversion.
  • Serve as the primary architect of the national workplace giving and matching gift prospecting strategy, building a pipeline of corporate partners by identifying and engaging employers with strong employee engagement, volunteerism, and workplace giving program potential.
  • Lead the national matching gift strategy, driving employee-level participation by identifying match-eligible donors, increasing awareness of matching gift benefits, and leveraging tools and partnerships to maximize match activation and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with Global Development teams (e.g., Corporate Partnerships, Peer-to-Peer, Leadership Giving, Direct Response and Signature Events) to embed matching gift strategies into programs.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to field staff, providing consultative support to identify opportunities and elevate workplace giving and matching gift strategies within local chapters.
  • Create resources, trainings, and tools to support fundraising staff and volunteers in selling and managing the programs.
  • Represent Breakthrough T1D in national Corporate Social Responsibility and workplace giving networks to build visibility and open new doors.
  • Develop and maintain campaign resources and best practices to support chapter and national staff in executing workplace giving strategies.
  • Set the organizational strategy for effective engagement with the Creating Healthier Communities (CHC) Program and Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) payroll deduction. Serve as the liaison to the CHC and CFC and participate on the Charity Leadership Council.
  • Create a coordinated stewardship plan for workplace giving and matched donors across all channels, collaborating with channel leads to inform and implement strategies.
  • Partner with Finance to define rules of engagement for revenue attribution, application tracking, and donor receipting, ensuring alignment and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8 years of experience managing campaigns and directly raising 7+ figures annually through workplace giving and fundraising initiatives with Fortune 500 corporations.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking for small and large audiences, and the ability to craft compelling partner communications and represent Breakthrough T1D with professionalism.
  • High degree of technological proficiency, with Microsoft Office Suite, donor databases (preferably Salesforce), collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams, Zoom), and matching gift platforms (Benevity, YourCause, CyberGrants, Double the Donation, Deed preferred).
  • Entrepreneurial and growth mindset with a collaborative approach; comfortable working both independently and within a team.
  • This position requires complex decisions requiring judgement and initiative.
  • Influence and drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders and field leadership, building buy-in for national strategies and ensuring consistent adoption and execution across teams.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff and provide strategic guidance across the program.
  • Oversee training strategy and resources; guide curriculum development.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for partner engagement, national meetings, and campaign support.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and transport materials up to 15–20 pounds (e.g., event materials, training resources).
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends in support of events, campaigns, or key partner engagements.

Target Salary - $125k - $150k

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and infrequently up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
