A Brief Overview

The Instructional Designer I will have responsibility for assisting with the design and development of online, self-paced and instructor-led learning modules using sound instructional design principles (ADDIE), industry standard authoring tools, UH templates and the UH's Learning Management System (Cornerstone). The Instructional Designer I will work collaboratively with other Instructional Designers, subject matter experts (SMEs) and internal clients to develop engaging and interactive learning to help our employees be successful in their role. The level I role is primarily focused on updating existing learning material and working with other designers on new projects.

What You Will Do
  • Become familiar with the areas of technology specialization in compliance with guidelines, policies and norms of UH.
  • Meet with Subject Matter Experts to update content for online, self-paced and instructor-led learning modules.
  • Design and develop engaging, interactive online and classroom training programs on products, process, systems and skills.
  • Identify, develop and implement appropriate technology and instructional solutions for teaching and learning on multiple projects.
  • Create all training objects, tools and supporting materials for curriculum and collaborate with training facilitators to teach the material through train-the-trainer and teach-back sessions.
  • Create supporting material including exercises, activities, assessments, material and media (e.g. audio, video, simulations, role play, games, etc.) that enhances retention and learning transfer.
  • Create and update learning resources and documentation including project documentation and course folders.
  • Review feedback from internal clients and incorporate as needed.
  • Assist Clients and technology staff to resolve issues related to technology used in teaching.
  • Assist in troubleshooting developed courses in UH’s LMS (Cornerstone).
  • Answer customer support questions and monitor helpdesk tickets for the applications you support and develop content for.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.


Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, educational technology, education or similar (Required)
Work Experience
  • 2+ years instructional design experience developing online, self-paced and instructor-led learning modules. (Required) and
  • Experience working with company software, systems, applications and network products. (Required) and
  • Experience in using authoring software (including, but not limited to: Captivate, Adobe Suite, Camtasia, Mzinga, etc.). (Required) and
  • Expertise in design and adult learning principles (ADDIE) (Required) and
  • Experience with ADKAR Change Management (Preferred) and
  • Experience working with Cornerstone or similar learning management system (Required) and
  • Knowledge and experience uploading and troubleshooting learning modules in a Learning Management System (LMS). (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Visual design skills (SnagIt, Photoshop, Illustrator). (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory (ADDIE) – including learning styles, distance learning theories and practices, and best practices in teaching and learning. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of instructional technology and adult learning principles. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to interact and provide information to individuals and groups. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work collaboratively. (Required proficiency)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to independently manage training and development projects. (Required proficiency)
