AI Summary

Design and build learning architecture, including training modules, facilitator guides, and assessment tools using AI-assisted workflows. Partner with HR leaders to align programming with organizational values and competency frameworks.

Description :

We're building out our Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD) programming and are looking for an Instructional Designer to help design and build the next phase of this work. This is a project-based contract role, well-suited to a graduate student, recent graduate, or early-career freelancer looking to do substantive instructional design work with real organizational impact.

You'll be joining active, ongoing L&OD work with an established internal values/competency framework and house style already in place. You'll help build out current priorities and contribute to what comes next across the broader roadmap.

This role is not content production for hire — you'll be doing real instructional design work: learning architecture, sequencing, facilitator guides, and practice/assessment design, grounded in our existing internal framework.

Location : Warren, New Jersey preferred. Open to remote.

Salary Range : $32-38/hr

Key Responsibilities :

Design learning architecture for training modules and sessions — objectives, sequencing, practice and assessment design, and facilitator guides — not just slide production

Build out training materials and programming using AI tools as a core part of your workflow (drafting, scenario generation, rapid prototyping, iteration)

Work within our existing values/competency framework and established visual/tone style, while proposing refinements where you see opportunities to strengthen the design

Partner closely with HR Leaders on stakeholder-specific builds (e.g., team sessions, leadership offsites), taking direction on learning objectives and organizational fit

Help maintain internal ownership of our L&OD content — building programming that doesn't depend on outside vendors or certified facilitators to run

Contribute across the broader L&OD roadmap as priorities evolve

What This Role Is Not

Not a content production/formatting role — we're looking for design judgment, not just execution

Not a role with authority to independently redesign our internal framework or set new learning strategy — that direction comes from Human Resources leaders

Not a full-time or benefits-eligible position — this is a 1099 contractor engagement

Engagement Details

Renewable project contract (1099); initial engagement scoped to current deliverables, with potential for renewal based on organizational need and performance

Reporting cadence with the Sr. Director, Human Resources to be established at engagement start

Qualifications :

Required

Training or coursework in instructional design, learning experience design, adult learning theory, or a closely related field (e.g., current or recent graduate study in I/O psychology, education, HR/OD, or instructional design)

Demonstrated fluency using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) as part of an actual instructional design or content development workflow — not just casual use. Be ready to speak to specific examples.

Ability to design learning experiences with real architecture: clear objectives, logical sequencing, and built-in practice or assessment — not just polished content

Strong plain-language writing skills; comfort with a “hallway test” design philosophy over jargon-heavy corporate training language

Ability to work independently within a defined framework and style guide, while flagging thoughtful suggestions rather than either rigid compliance or unprompted overhauls

Availability for 20–30 hours/week for the duration of the engagement

Preferred

Familiarity with leadership, organizational, and team development frameworks or tools

Experience building facilitator guides or train-the-trainer materials
