JOB SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive support and guidance in the administration of day-to-day operations of HR in the organization. This role focuses on managing progressive discipline and state unemployment claims management. The HRG ensures efficient application and delivery of company policies, procedures, and practices while working with managers to document policy violations and performance issues to ensure policy compliance. The HRG specializes in unemployment insurance management, claims mitigation, and employer advocacy to protect company tax ratings.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide HR support and guidance to management and employees, explaining company policies and procedures.
  • Handle all unemployment administration, including claims processing, hearings, appeals process, wage audits, and other related tasks.
  • Manage all incoming state unemployment insurance notices, gather separation data, review termination files, and submit factual responses on time.
  • Represent the company at state unemployment hearings and appeals, prepare witness testimony, and compile evidence.
  • Review and audit quarterly benefit charges and report claim trends to HR leadership.
  • Guide supervisors through corrective action steps, including verbal, written, and final warnings and performance improvement plans and how to document appropriately.
  • Review disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans ensuring accuracy and detailed documentation.
  • Assist with investigations into workplace policy violations and attendance issues.
  • Maintain organization compliance with all federal, state, and local employment-related laws. 
  • Manage sensitive and confidential matters, including personnel relations, organizational changes, and protecting the security of information, data, and files.
  • Evaluate/recognize risks or potential liability issues, gather documentation, advise management and give recommendations for resolving.
  • Research specific state and/or local employment ordinances and regulations as required.
  • Respond to federal and state agency notices and requests promptly.
  • Exercise individual judgment when dealing with issues or potential issues and escalate to managers attention in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update HR files, records, forms, and databases while ensuing accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Enter information into databases and systems, compile data and prepare reports, spreadsheets, memos, and other documents.
  • Perform records audits to ensure that all required employee documentation is collected and maintained properly.
  • Provide guidance and training on HR related areas and systems to managers as required or needed.
  • Process incoming mail and respond to voicemails and emails promptly.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with Employee Handbook and all company HR policies and procedures.
  • General office administrative tasks: document preparation, copy, scan, fax, file, shred, prepare and mail correspondence, organize files, order supplies, etc.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned as business needs arise.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in HR or related field and/or certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years HR related work experience with unemployment and disciplinary processes.
  • Must have proven background in employee progressive discipline and extensive full cycle unemployment claims management.
  • Computer Knowledge/Skills: MS Office, HRIS, Time Tracking, and other HR related systems, such as unemployment admin systems/software. Equifax/Employers Edge preferred.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, including Title VII, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, ERISA, etc.
  • Professional in appearance and presentation, including in virtual workspace.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate clearly, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to write professional correspondence using proper grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information.
  • Must be able to follow instruction, track and follow through with tasks, and have a sense of urgency when required.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently.
  • Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and detailed-oriented.

The compensation range for this position is: $60,000-$68,000 annually

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods; repetitive motions; use hands to handle equipment or controls; reach with hands and arms; typing on keyboard; viewing computer screen extended periods; speak clearly and hearing. Camera/video usage is an essential function of the job.
  • Regular use of typical office equipment, computer software, programs, and methods of communication such as a computer, e-mail, phone system, and messaging.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
