Position Summary
The HR Generalist supports day-to-day Human Resources operations across the United States and Canada, reporting to the Director, Human Resources. This role serves as the primary point of contact for HR policy questions, employee inquiries, HRIS administration, benefits, leave coordination, and HR operational support. Working closely with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, HR Systems, and Payroll, the HR Generalist helps deliver a seamless employee experience while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies across North America.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Support & HR Administration
Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, and general employment matters, escalating complex employee relations issues to HR Business Partners as appropriate.
Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to HR Business Partners, ensuring a responsive and professional employee experience.
Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee information and HR documentation.
Onboarding
Manage the HR onboarding process for all U.S. and Canadian new hires following handoff from Talent Acquisition.
Facilitate new hire orientation and ensure completion of all required onboarding activities.
Coordinate with Payroll, IT, hiring managers, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless onboarding experience.
HR Operations & HRIS Administration
Partner with the HR Systems Manager to support HRIS administration, system testing, process improvements, and data management initiatives.
Maintain accurate employee records, including new hires, transfers, promotions, organizational changes, and terminations.
Generate standard and ad hoc HR reports and metrics while serving as the North America HR reporting backup.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance within HR systems.
Compliance
Support compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations.
Maintain personnel records and HR documentation in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
Assist with internal HR audits, policy administration, and compliance initiatives.
Performance Management
Coordinate the annual performance management process, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are met.
Support managers and employees throughout the performance review cycle by providing guidance on processes, documentation, and timelines.
Leave Administration
Coordinate statutory and company-sponsored leave programs across the U.S. and Canada.
Partner with employees, managers, Payroll, and third-party leave administrators to ensure timely processing and communication.
Monitor leave documentation and coordinate return-to-work activities.
Benefits Administration
Serve as the primary HR contact for employee benefits across the United States and Canada.
Support employee benefit inquiries, enrollments, qualifying life events, and annual Open Enrollment activities.
Partner with benefit vendors, brokers, and Payroll to ensure accurate benefit administration and payroll deductions.
Learning & Development
Coordinate logistics for learning and development programs, including registrations, attendance tracking, and employee communications.
Support organizational training initiatives and employee development programs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in an HR Generalist or HR Operations role.
Experience administering HRIS systems and maintaining accurate employee data.
Experience supporting employees across the United States; experience supporting Canadian employees is preferred.
Working knowledge of U.S. employment laws and regulations; familiarity with Canadian employment standards is considered an asset.
Experience administering employee benefits and leave programs.
Strong analytical skills with experience producing HR reports and working with HR data.
Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $65,000-$75,000 USD. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
