Position Summary
This position provides extraordinary member experience by planning, organizing, and directing the activities involved in the administration of all functions within the Finance Department, including regulatory reporting, budget preparation, financial planning and analysis, investment management, asset-liability management, liquidity management, as well as development of internal controls and procedures.
The Head of FP&A and Accounting is also a trusted financial advisor and thought partner to business and functional leaders across the Credit Union. This role supports informed decision-making by translating financial data into practical insights that align operational performance with the credit union’s mission, strategic plan, and financial sustainability goals.
Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Accounting and Regulatory Policies
- Researches and interprets new regulatory, financial accounting standards board (FASB), and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) pronouncements, and determines if there is a financial and operational impact on the credit union.
- Develops and implements new accounting policies and procedures within the credit union by working with other division leaders when necessary.
- Reviews and revises accounting policies and procedures when changes are warranted.
Financial and Regulatory Reporting
- Ensures the daily and month end close is prepared accurately and efficiently.
- Reviews financial results for reasonableness and investigates and reports on variances.
- Develops, manages, and maintains reliable and accurate financial reporting on income, expense, assets, liabilities, and capital. Interprets and presents financial reports to management, appraising operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget for management planning and decision making.
- Prepares and/or oversees accurate and timely preparation of all regulatory reports, including but not limited to state and federal agencies, including Call Report, tax filings, FHLB QCR and FRB BIC.
- Liaison to external auditors; coordinates the production of annual audited financial statements and footnotes.
- Assists with, and responds to, requests relating to examinations and audits.
Systems and Other
- Maintains the Credit Union’s accounting system, including Chart of Accounts, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Investments, Prepaids/Accruals.
- Finance department liaison for data warehouse.
- Ensures the Credit Union’s accounting procedures, practices, and policies include appropriate controls to mitigate risk, support the organization’s strategic goals, and are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Responsible for the administration and execution of the Credit Union’s Reconciliation Policy.
- Serves as key contact for all correspondent and safekeeping relationships.
- Completes all assigned risk assessments/reviews.
- Responsible for the Finance department Business Continuity Plan.
Asset Liability Management (ALM) and Liquidity
- Serves as a member of the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) and any other committees as assigned.
- Works with the Head of Finance & Risk to prepare the monthly ALCO agenda, and responsible for all supporting documents to be provided.
- Assists Head of Finance & Risk with the preparation and review of Asset Liability Management Quarterly IRR Simulation.
- Administers the Credit Union’s investment portfolio in accordance with Head of Finance & Risk and/or ALCO directives.
- Manages the daily liquidity position. Monitors trends and short-term forecasts, making appropriate recommendations to the Head of Finance & Risk when necessary.
- Proficient in Liquidity 360 and Deposit 360, Darling Consulting Software.
Budgeting
- Responsible for the management and complete understanding of the Budget Software.
- Works with the Head of Finance & Risk to develop the Net Interest Margin using the Budget Software Vantage.
- Manages the coordination and development of the annual budget for non-interest income and expense for the Credit Union utilizing the Budget Software Vantage.
- Responsible for all reporting to perform analytics, and provides reporting during the budget process.
- Responsible for all reporting at various detail levels using the Budget Software.
Business Partner
- You will provide financial expertise and support to specific departments within the Credit Union (e.g. Lending, Retail, HR, IT) and act as a liaison between the finance function and various business units, helping to bridge the gap between financial data and business decisions.
- You will be responsible for core financial planning activities, including budgeting and forecasting, and will serve as a key control steward, helping to drive business strategic decisions.
- You will develop financial models to forecast future performance, assess investment opportunities, and evaluate financial risks for the business, and to analyze the impact of business decisions on financial performance.
- Thrive in data-driven decision-making, cross-functional partnerships, and continuous improvement with a strategic thinker mindset.
- Take ownership of dedicated KPIs reporting.
- Prepare documentation, analytics and controls to support internal and external reporting.
- Assist in coordinating and producing consolidated quarterly and monthly reporting and financial reviews with other stakeholders.

Artificial Intelligence
- Leads the development and execution of artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics initiatives within the Finance Department.
- Champions the use of artificial intelligence tools to streamline workflows, reduce manual processes, and enhance the productivity of the Finance team.
- Establishes governance, controls, and risk management practices related to the use of artificial intelligence and automated decision-support tools within Finance.
Other Duties
- Oversees the management of assigned systems and vendor relationships to ensure efficiency and proper maintenance of systems, services, and equipment. Completes all assigned risk assessments/reviews, and monitors Credit Union operations, policies, and procedures within assigned department(s) to ensure proper mitigating controls are implemented and adhered to as required.

Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Five to ten years professional experience, which includes progressive finance/accounting and supervisory experience.
- Advanced computer skills in Excel and Word.
- Prior experience working with GL software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Mathematical skills and strong analytical experience.

Physical Requirements
- Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
- Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.

- Must be able to work additional hours whenever required or requested by management.
