You will lead and scale the content marketing function, developing a comprehensive strategy that spans the entire buyer journey. You will also manage an in-house team and collaborate cross-functionally to drive growth through technical content, AI-optimized search, and community-driven programs.
Your mission
We're looking for a Head of Content Marketing to lead and scale Checkmk's content function as we accelerate into our next phase of growth. You'll set the content strategy across the full buyer journey, lead a talented in-house team of 3, and partner closely with Demand Generation, Brand & Field Marketing, Web Development and Product Marketing, to make content one of our strongest growth levers.
You'll own the editorial voice of a technically credible brand with deep open-source roots, shape how Checkmk shows up in search and across the channels our buyers rely on, and build content programs that serve both our commercial pipeline and our global community of users. This is a strategic leadership role with real scope. You'll define the operating model, strengthen the team, and set the standard for what great technical content looks like at Checkmk.
- Content strategy across the buyer and customer journeys. You'll develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that supports prospects and customers from initial awareness through to purchase decision and adoption, ensuring we show up with the right message at every stage that’s optimized for conversion
- Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO). You'll establish GEO and AEO as core disciplines within the content function, building the technical foundations and content approach needed for Checkmk to be surfaced and cited by AI-powered search and answer engines. AI citation share will be a key performance indicator you own
- Integrated campaign narratives. You'll shape the content themes that support our campaigns and translate them into programs that Demand Generation, Brand and Field Marketing can activate across channels
- The Checkmk editorial voice. You'll define and uphold an editorial standard that reflects the technical depth and credibility our audience expects, and ensure it is applied consistently across all content produced by the team
- Localization at scale. You'll own how our content shows up in the languages our buyers use. You'll build an AI-enabled localization workflow, paired with native-speaker review, that lets us scale content in different languages without compromising on quality
- Community-driven content. You'll build programs that engage our global user community as content collaborators, turning their expertise and enthusiasm into a scalable content asset that strengthens both our brand and pipeline
- The content team. You'll lead, coach, and develop the content marketing function, and partner closely with Product Marketing, Demand Generation, Brand & Field Marketing, and Web Development to ensure content delivers against wider business goals
- Performance and measurement. You'll define the metrics that matter for content, including organic pipeline contribution, AI citation share, share of voice, and engagement, and use them to continuously improve the impact of the function
What success looks like In your first 90 days
- You've completed a full audit of our existing content, assessing quality, relevance, and performance against ICP, buyer stage, and channel, and produced a clear prioritisation of what to keep, refresh, or retire
- You've mapped the content landscape across our priority topics and personas, identifying where we have authority, where we have gaps, and where the biggest opportunities lie
- You've developed a content strategy and roadmap that aligns with our commercial priorities, brand ambitions, buyer and customer journeys, and secured stakeholder alignment behind it
- You've established the Checkmk editorial standard, covering voice, tone, technical depth, evidence bar, and formatting guidelines
By month 6
- A refreshed content programme is live across our core themes with pillar content, supporting assets, and clear distribution plans across owned, earned, and paid channels
- Integrated campaign narratives are live with coordinated activation across Demand Generation, Brand and Field Marketing
- Organic search performance is trending up on our priority keywords and topics, and content is a growing contributor to the top-of-funnel pipeline
- We are visible and cited in AI-generated answers on our core category queries, with a measurable trajectory in place
- The community content programme has launched, with a first cohort of ambassador-authored or co-authored pieces published
- Cross-functional partnerships are working well, with clear intake, prioritisation, and feedback loops between content and its internal stakeholders
By the end of year one
- Content is a top-three source of qualified pipeline, with attribution and measurement we trust across organic search, direct, and referral channels
- Checkmk is recognised as a leading voice on IT monitoring and observability, with a clear share of voice on the topics that matter most to our buyers
- We are consistently discoverable and credible across the full spectrum of discovery channels, from traditional search to AI-powered answer engines
- Repeatable content programmes are in place for launches, campaigns, thought leadership, community storytelling, and customer stories
- You've earned a seat at strategy conversations well beyond content, including category positioning
Your profile
- 6+ years in B2B content marketing, with experience marketing to technical audiences and a genuine interest in the IT observability space. Prior exposure to open-source and IT-ops focused go-to-market is a plus
- A track record of building content engines. You've done the strategy, the hiring, the operating model, and the measurement, and you've shipped the work yourself when it mattered
- Understanding of GEO/AEO and modern SEO. You understand how search and AI answer engines discover, assemble, and cite content, and you can direct specialists and agency partners to execute against a clear strategy
- Fluent use of AI in your own workflow. You use LLMs and AI tools daily to research, draft, edit, analyze, and scale your output, and you can teach a team to do the same without compromising quality, voice, or factual rigor. You know where AI adds leverage and where human judgment stays essential
- A strong editorial instinct. You can tell whether a piece will land with the target audience and you're comfortable collecting feedback and iterating
- Executive presence and strong communication skills. You're comfortable presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders up to C-level, and you can navigate differing views with clarity, diplomacy, and confidence in your editorial judgment
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. German is a plus
