Hardware Development Engineer (remote)

Responsibilities

The Hardware Development Engineer will support the design, development, fabrication, integration, testing, and fielding of electronic hardware systems and assemblies in support of United States Navy undersea warfare and sensor system programs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and document electronic circuit boards, electro-mechanical assemblies, acoustic devices, and associated hardware systems in accordance with Technical Instructions (TIs), Government Furnished Information (GFI), and applicable Government-approved designs and plans.

• Develop engineering drawings, technical data packages, design documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, and configuration management artifacts required to support hardware development activities.

• Perform schematic capture, component selection, printed circuit board (PCB) layout support, and related hardware design activities for prototype and production hardware systems.

• Support configuration management processes by maintaining drawing packages, engineering change documentation, revision control, and hardware baselines.

• Procure, fabricate, and assemble electronic hardware systems, subsystems, components, and test articles utilizing Government-provided laboratory facilities and equipment.

• Coordinate procurement of materials, parts, components, and subassemblies required to support hardware development efforts in accordance with project requirements.

• Fabricate, assemble, and integrate hardware systems and assemblies using approved engineering documentation, manufacturing instructions, and work procedures.

• Develop detailed fabrication, assembly, integration, and test procedures to support hardware lifecycle activities.

• Conduct functional testing, integration testing, troubleshooting, verification, and validation of hardware systems, subsystems, and assemblies in accordance with approved specifications and test procedures.

• Integrate embedded software, firmware, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, and Contractor-developed software into hardware platforms and support hardware/software interoperability testing.

• Perform laboratory integration and system-level testing of hardware components, assemblies, and software applications to verify compliance with design requirements.

• Analyze test results, identify root causes of hardware and software integration issues, and develop corrective actions to resolve discrepancies.

• Maintain and audit hardware travelers, manufacturing records, test documentation, and engineering records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with program requirements.

• Support developmental, qualification, laboratory, pier-side, and at-sea testing activities.

• Prepare engineering reports, test reports, trip reports, technical memoranda, and associated program documentation.

• Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, engineering working groups, and customer briefings.

• Support field installation, deployment, troubleshooting, and operational testing of developed systems upon Government approval.

• Travel as required to Government laboratories, test facilities, fleet locations, shipyards, and operational sites in support of system integration, testing, installation, and fielding activities.

Desired Background

• Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology degree.
• Experience with schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout.
• Experience with hardware fabrication, assembly, and testing.
• Experience supporting hardware/software integration and system test activities.
• Familiarity with Navy, DoD, or defense acquisition programs.
• Experience supporting laboratory, waterfront, shipboard, or at-sea testing environments.

Qualifications

Required: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout.
• Experience with hardware testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Desired Experience:

• Six (6) or more years of experience working with DMEA-accredited fabrication houses.
• Four (4) years of documented, specialized engineering experience in thermal management, signal integrity, and undersea sensor systems.

Security Clearance:  Requires U.S. Citizenship and an active government security clearance.
