The Fractional Director of Marketing will lead the agency's marketing strategy, overseeing content, campaigns, and partnerships to drive brand awareness and business growth. This role involves hands-on execution and collaboration with leadership to translate agency expertise into high-performing marketing initiatives.
1r Agency is a digital commerce agency partnering with leading and emerging brands to create high-performing digital experiences and drive meaningful growth. We work across strategy, design, technology, and marketing, with deep expertise in the Shopify and Klaviyo ecosystem.
We’re looking for a Fractional Director of Marketing to lead 1r Agency’s marketing strategy and help turn the agency’s expertise, client work, and point of view into marketing that builds awareness, strengthens our brand, and supports new business growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced B2B marketer who can move comfortably between strategy and execution. You’ll work closely with the VP of Growth & Marketing, Director of Business Development, agency leadership, and internal subject-matter experts to identify the highest-value marketing opportunities and turn them into compelling campaigns, content, events, and experiences.
This is an approximately 25-hour-per-week fractional engagement. We’re looking for someone who can bring senior-level marketing thinking and leadership without needing to be full-time.
Partner with the VP of Growth & Marketing to develop and execute 1r’s marketing strategy and priorities
Translate business and growth goals into focused marketing initiatives and campaigns
Develop and manage the marketing calendar, balancing short-term opportunities with longer-term brand and demand-generation initiatives
Identify opportunities to better leverage 1r’s expertise, client work, partnerships, and industry perspective
Establish clear priorities, processes, and ways of working across the marketing function
Recommend where internal resources, agency talent, freelancers, or external partners can best support execution
Lead 1r’s content and thought leadership strategy across LinkedIn, email, website, and other priority channels
Identify stories, insights, trends, and points of view worth bringing to market
Develop and/or oversee thought leadership content for 1r leadership, including ghostwriting and founder POV
Maintain a consistent and differentiated brand voice across channels
Guide the development of editorial content, campaign assets, downloadable resources, and other lead-generation content
Use performance insights to continuously improve content strategy and distribution
Build a consistent pipeline of compelling client stories, case studies, testimonials, and proof points
Identify strong stories within the work happening across 1r
Interview clients and internal teams to uncover insights, results, and narratives
Lead case studies from concept through publication, leveraging internal creative and marketing resources as appropriate
Develop systems for repurposing client successes across social, email, website, awards, and sales enablement
Lead the strategy and development of relevant industry award submissions
Develop and oversee integrated campaigns tied to business priorities, industry trends, and customer needs
Lead the strategy for 1r’s email marketing and nurture initiatives
Develop lead-generation opportunities including reports, guides, audits, webinars, and other valuable content
Partner with internal subject-matter experts to turn agency expertise into market-facing content
Develop campaign briefs and oversee execution across owned, social, email, website, and partner channels
Establish measurement frameworks and use performance data to optimize campaigns
Work closely with the Director of Business Development to turn 1r’s strategic partner relationships into meaningful marketing opportunities.
Develop the marketing strategy for priority technology and ecosystem partnerships
Identify and prioritize high-value co-marketing opportunities
Lead the development of joint webinars, content, campaigns, newsletter partnerships, and other activations
Collaborate with partner marketing teams on messaging, creative, promotion, and distribution
Establish repeatable processes for activating and measuring partner marketing opportunities
The Director of Business Development owns partner relationships and broader partnership strategy; the Fractional Director of Marketing owns the marketing strategy and activation of those relationships.
Develop the marketing strategy for priority conferences, industry events, webinars, and 1r-hosted experiences
Build pre-event, onsite, and post-event marketing plans
Lead webinar strategy and execution in partnership with clients, partners, and internal experts
Support the strategy and promotion of 1r-hosted dinners, networking events, and other experiences
Partner with Business Development on audience strategy, invitations, meeting generation, and follow-up
Measure event performance and identify opportunities to improve future programs
Guide ongoing marketing content and messaging across the 1r website
Identify opportunities for new landing pages, service content, case studies, and thought leadership
Partner with internal design and development resources to execute marketing-related website initiatives
Help evolve 1r’s positioning, messaging, and brand presentation as the business grows
Ensure new capabilities, client work, awards, and agency developments are reflected across relevant channels
Establish clear marketing processes, workflows, and priorities
Manage marketing projects across internal teams and external resources
Develop briefs, timelines, and accountability across initiatives
Maintain organized marketing assets, templates, and content libraries
Monitor performance across website, social, email, campaigns, and events
Develop regular reporting and insights for the VP of Growth & Marketing and agency leadership
Continuously identify opportunities to make 1r’s marketing more efficient, focused, and effective
You’re an experienced B2B marketer who can think strategically, write exceptionally well, and make things happen.You don't need a large team or a big budget to be effective. You know how to prioritize, find the strongest story, build the plan, and bring the right people together to execute it.
Ideally, you have:
7–10+ years of marketing experience, preferably within an agency, ecommerce, SaaS, technology, or digital commerce environment
Experience owning or leading a B2B marketing function or significant portion of one
Excellent writing, editing, storytelling, and communication skills
Strong understanding of content, thought leadership, email, campaigns, events, and demand generation
Experience developing compelling case studies and customer stories
Experience working directly with founders, executives, sales/business development teams, clients, and external partners
Strong strategic and project management skills
Ability to prioritize effectively and operate with limited hours and resources
Experience developing marketing programs from the ground up
Familiarity with Shopify, Klaviyo, ecommerce, or the broader digital commerce ecosystem is a plus
Comfortable being both strategic and hands-on when needed
Highly independent, organized, and proactive
