About Mellow Sleep

Mellow Sleep is a fast-growing home brand building premium comforters and bedding for the modern sleeper. We sell across a true omnichannel footprint — our own Shopify DTC storefront, Amazon, and TikTok Shop — and we're expanding our wholesale presence into major national big-box retailers while scaling internationally across Germany, Canada, and the broader EU.

That mix of marketplace, direct, and brick-and-mortar retail make our finance function unusually interesting: no two revenue channels behave the same way, and the person in this seat gets to make sense of all of them.

The Role

We're hiring an FP&A / Business Analyst to sit at the intersection of finance, accounting, and commercial strategy. You'll own the numbers that tell us how the business is actually performing — by channel, by product, and by market — and turn them into forecasts, dashboards, and decisions. You'll partner closely with the Controller and our outsourced CFO, and your analysis will be visible all the way up to the founders.

This is a builder's role. Our reporting infrastructure is still maturing, so you'll have real latitude to design models, standardize definitions, and stand up the analytics that a company our size needs to run cleanly. It's an analytical role that works alongside and supports our existing bookkeeping function — not one that replaces it.

What You Will Own

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support annual budget and the rolling forecast development, adding insights to drive tighter forecasting and decision-making.
  • Manage channel-level P&L production from the outsourced accounting team (Amazon, TikTok Shop, Shopify DTC, and wholesale) down to contribution margin, so we understand true profitability per channel rather than blended averages.
  • Provide variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. prior period) narrative on the why behind the numbers, not just the what.
  • Support the monthly performance narrative and the KPI dashboard build — the core board-visible finance deliverables — and continuously improve how we visualize and communicate them.
  • Support cash flow forecasting, including the 13-week rolling cash forecast and working-capital analysis (DSO, DPO, DIO).

Accounting Support

  • Work alongside our existing bookkeepers to assist with the monthly close — supporting reconciliations, tie-outs, and flagging discrepancies rather than owning the books.
  • Reconcile data between our operating platforms (Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, retail portals) and the general ledger, and help investigate variances.
  • Help maintain data integrity and consistent definitions across our finance and operating systems.
  • Provide supporting analysis and data pulls for sales tax, marketplace facilitator, and multi-jurisdiction compliance as we scale across US states and international markets.

Business & Commercial Analysis

  • Analyze marketing and media-mix performance in partnership with the growth team; connect ad spend to blended and channel-level returns.
  • Align with growth team to Model unit economics and the marketing P&L: MER, new-customer acquisition cost (NCPA), AOV, contribution margin, and LTV, and surface the trade-offs between them.
  • Build the financial case for expansion decisions — new marketplaces, new geographies (Canada, EU), new retail accounts.
  • Support inventory and demand planning with sell-through analysis, forecasting, and margin impact of promotions and markdowns.
  • Own retail/wholesale analytics for our big-box retail accounts: track sell-in vs. sell-through, chargebacks and deductions, fill rates, and account-level profitability.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis and decision support for the Controller, CFO, and founders.

Requirements

What You Bring

Required

  • 3–6 years of experience in FP&A, business/financial analysis, or a comparable finance role.
  • Retail and e-commerce experience — you understand how DTC, marketplace, and wholesale channels differ economically and operationally.
  • Solid accounting foundation — comfortable with GAAP fundamentals, the month-end close, and reading a full set of financials. Prior or current Sr. Accountant or controllership-adjacent experience is a strong plus.
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets and financial modeling skills (you can build a driver-based model from scratch).
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks (Online preferred).
  • Platform fluency across Shopify, Amazon (Seller and/or Vendor Central), and TikTok Shop — you know where the data lives and how to pull and reconcile it.
  • Experience with major big-box / national retail wholesale accounts, including their vendor systems and retailer portals, and the mechanics of deductions, chargebacks, and sell-through reporting.
  • AI fluency — you actively use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) in day-to-day finance work: drafting analysis and commentary, building and debugging models and formulas, cleaning and reconciling data, and speeding up recurring reporting. You treat AI as a force multiplier across the responsibilities above, with the judgment to sanity-check its output before it reaches a decision-maker.
  • Strong written communication — you can translate a spreadsheet into a one-paragraph story an executive will actually read.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Consumer products, home goods, or bedding/textiles industry experience.
  • Experience in a multi-channel or omnichannel operating environment.
  • BI and data tooling: SQL, Looker/Power BI/Tableau, or similar.
  • Exposure to marketplace and DTC analytics platforms (e.g., Triple Whale, Northbeam, or in-house attribution).
  • Familiarity with inventory/demand planning and 3PL or supply-chain data.
  • Experience supporting international expansion (VAT/GST, multi-currency, cross-border logistics).
  • Comfort in a lean, fast-moving environment where you build the process as you go.

Why This Role

You'll be a linchpin of a growing finance team with a direct line to leadership and a genuine seat at the table on commercial decisions. If you want to see the full picture of a modern omnichannel consumer brand — and build the systems that let a company scale from mid-size to national retail — this is that role.

Benefits

  • Employment: Full time
  • Department: Finance
  • Reports to: Controller
  • Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
  • Location: Remote
  • Working hours: Meaningful overlap with US Eastern (EST) business hours required
