A Brief Overview
The Executive Director of Finance Systems, Service, and Transformation is a senior finance leader responsible for strategy, governance, and delivery of a technology-enabled finance and controllership function at Stanford Health Care. This role oversees finance systems, shared services customer experience, transformation, and pro-code automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives for the Controllership function. In partnership with Technology and Digital Services (TDS) and finance leaders, the Executive Director drives top-down process and system optimization, strengthens controls and governance, and improves service quality across the organization.

What you will do

  • Strategy, governance, and operating model: Set the vision, roadmap, and investment priorities for finance systems and transformation; establish governance for foundational data model, security, controls, release management, and partner performance; and lead portfolio financial stewardship, including budgets, business cases, and value realization.

  • ERP functional modules and integrated applications: Provide executive functional oversight for ERP finance modules and related finance applications, including lifecycle planning, requirements, testing, upgrades, integrations, and process standardization, in partnership with TDS and other stakeholders.

  • Finance customer service and experience: Lead the AskFinance service model and finance knowledge management capabilities to improve intake, triage, routing, service levels, and issue resolution. Define and enforce service levels (SLAs) and performance metrics to improve user experience for finance and other organizational stakeholders.

  • Portfolio, project, and change management: Lead a disciplined finance transformation portfolio with standardized intake, prioritization, governance, communications, training, and adoption measurement to ensure initiatives deliver intended outcomes, effective transition from legacy processes, and drive value for the organization. Identify and prioritize high-impact automation opportunities and serve as a catalyst for change across finance and business functions.

  • Automation and AI-enabled transformation: Identify and implement top-down systemic opportunities to simplify and automate finance and controllership processes using workflow, Robotic Process Automation, pro-code tools, and AI, with appropriate controls, compliance, collaboration with TDS, and risk management.

  • Leadership, Culture, and Accountability: Lead and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, systems thinking, learning, continuous improvement, and collaboration with stakeholders in TDS, HR, Finance, and operations. Establish clear ownership and accountability, performance expectations, and development plans for the department. Build a strong leadership bench and succession pipeline. Lead reskilling and upskilling of team members to support continuous optimization and change efforts. Evaluate evolving needs of the department and organization to ensure we have the appropriate skillsets and resources to support and drive the mission of the organization.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, accounting, computer / data science or related field required.

  • Master’s Degree in business administration, health administration, CPA or related relevant field preferred.


Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum twelve (12) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience required.

  • Experience working in Finance at complex healthcare organization preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to set the vision, strategy, and operating model for a technology-enabled finance and controllership function spanning systems and service delivery.

  • Expertise overseeing Workday ERP finance modules and related finance applications, including roadmaps, upgrades, integrations, sustainment, and optimization.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical and financial concepts to senior executives and diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams and strong partnerships across Finance, TDS, HR, and operational leadership.

  • Ability to lead transformation and continuous improvement using data, customer feedback, and disciplined delivery practices.

  • Health industry knowledge and context – understanding of Stanford Health Care’s position in the continuum as an Academic Medical Center and developing health system.

  • Experience designing and operating finance service delivery and knowledge management capabilities, including ServiceNow-based intake and workflow management.

  • Demonstrated portfolio, project, and change management capability, including governance, communications, training, and adoption measurement.

  • Ability to identify and implement automation and AI-enabled improvements with appropriate governance, controls, and risk management.

  • Knowledge of data governance, master data stewardship, access controls, segregation of duties, and audit readiness in a regulated healthcare environment.

  • Experience with vendor and partner management, including contract performance, service delivery, and cross-functional coordination.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $112.39 - $148.91 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
