About the Role

The Estimator is responsible for researching, preparing, and coordinating complete cost estimates for assigned civil construction projects. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, this role analyzes specifications, drawings, RFPs, addendums, and other documentation to prepare competitive estimates and detailed proposals that support profitable, sustainable work.

This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced bidding environment. Tender requirements, deadlines, and priorities may shift based on operational needs, requiring strong adaptability and decision-making skills.

The Estimator also contributes to improving estimating processes, submission quality, cost tracking, and overall bid performance across the organization.

Who You Are

You are a results-driven construction professional with strong estimating experience in civil construction environments. You understand the complexities of reviewing drawings, preparing detailed take-offs, coordinating subcontractor pricing, and assembling competitive bids.

You are confident analyzing project documentation, interpreting specifications, and identifying cost, schedule, and constructability risks before they impact bid accuracy. You bring a strong understanding of civil construction methods, cost structures, and tendering processes, along with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

You are highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities in a deadline-driven estimating environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete tender submissions using appropriate crews, production rates, and material/subcontractor pricing reflective of project type and complexity
  • Prepare all supplemental bid documents, including execution plans, schedules, bonds, qualifications, and charge-out rates
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and develop accurate cost/time estimates
  • Solicit, prepare, and review supplier and subcontractor proposals to ensure completeness and competitiveness
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and RFP documents to fully understand project risks, execution strategy, schedule, and scope
  • Ensure all addendums are reviewed, incorporated, and filed appropriately
  • Work closely with the Estimating Manager to ensure proper and timely submission of tenders
  • Ensure safety standards and environmental requirements are incorporated into estimates, meeting or exceeding contract or regulatory expectations
  • Prepare project-specific plans when required, including traffic management, quality control, and site safety plans
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Maintain working knowledge of HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Agtek, and other bidding/takeoff software, continuously improving skillset and knowledge
  • Review tender/procurement websites (BC Bid, Merx, BidCentral, etc.) daily for suitable projects and forward opportunities to the Estimating Manager
  • Record work hours and assign to the proper billing entity
  • Record and file estimating notes and correspondence for all tenders
  • Perform hand-off meetings on successful estimates and ensure all project start-up documentation is in place for the operations team
  • Support lessons learned processes and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Perform delegated tasks from the Estimating Manager as required

Experience Required

  • Minimum 7+ years of estimating or project management experience in civil construction
  • Experience preparing estimates for earthworks, utilities, pipelines, and road construction
  • Experience bidding work in remote and/or northern communities is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously
  • Strong experience with cost estimating, quantity take-offs, and bid preparation
  • AutoCAD or Agtek proficiency considered an asset
  • Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, and contract documentation
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is an asset
  • P.Eng., CET, PMP, or related designation considered an asset
  • Experience with HeavyBid estimating software is an asset
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, specifications, and tendering processes

Safety Requirements

  • Promote and uphold Infracon's Health, Safety, and Environment culture
  • Comply with all company and WorkSafeBC safety regulations and procedures
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and site requirements
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract
  • Valid First Aid and CSTS 2020 certification
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing as required
  • Completion of corporate and site-specific orientations
  • Use of required PPE when attending job sites

Work Environment & Compensation

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to job sites across Canada for pre-bid reviews or project assessments. Work conditions may include outdoor environments, variable weather, and physically demanding site conditions when visiting field locations.
