Distinct from Account Operations leadership, which focuses on account performance, partner relationships, and P&L responsibilities, this role is responsible for how the Patient Navigator function operates across the organization. The Director serves as the operational center of excellence for the Navigator function—establishing standards, identifying performance gaps, developing scalable solutions, driving implementation, and measuring results. This leader maintains a strong connection to frontline operations through regular field engagement and uses those insights to continuously improve workflows, training, technology, and performance. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role for someone who can move seamlessly between strategy and execution, influence across teams and levels, and turn operational challenges into scalable, sustainable solutions. Key Responsibilities Functional Strategy & Operational Excellence Own the operating model and strategic direction for the Patient Navigator function, translating organizational priorities into clear operational standards and executable plans. Serve as the primary source of truth for Navigator operations and performance, identifying what is working, where gaps exist, and what actions are needed to improve results. Define, standardize, and continuously improve workflows, SOPs, tools, and best practices across the Navigator organization. Maintain a strong understanding of frontline operations through regular engagement with Patient Navigators and field leaders, including on-site observation and feedback. Identify systemic operational challenges, determine root causes, develop scalable solutions, and drive implementation through sustained adoption and measurable results. Apply Lean, continuous-improvement, and structured problem-solving methodologies to simplify workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve operational effectiveness. Performance & Accountability Define what high performance looks like for the Patient Navigator function and establish clear standards, expectations, and measures of success. Own and continuously improve the Navigator KPI framework and performance dashboard, providing leaders with clear visibility into performance, trends, risks, and opportunities. Benchmark operational practices and performance against relevant industry standards and evolve expectations as the organization grows. Partner with operational leaders to drive adoption of standards and consistent accountability across teams and locations. Measure the effectiveness of new processes, programs, and initiatives following implementation and make adjustments based on results and frontline feedback. Training & People Development Provide leadership and oversight to the Training function responsible for onboarding, preparing, and developing Patient Navigators. Ensure onboarding, training, competency validation, and ongoing development programs align with operational standards and business priorities. Translate new processes, products, technology, and operational changes into effective training and implementation plans. Establish strong feedback loops among Training, Operations, and frontline teams to identify knowledge and performance gaps and continuously improve employee readiness. Partner with operational leaders to identify development opportunities and strengthen capabilities across the Navigator organization. Cross-Functional Leadership Partner closely with Account Operations Executives (AOEs), providing the functional standards, tools, processes, and guidance needed to support consistent execution across accounts. Lead through influence across a matrixed organization, building alignment and driving execution among stakeholders who may not directly report to this role. Partner closely with Software, Product, and Technology teams to translate frontline operational needs into system, workflow, and platform improvements. Ensure technology and operational workflows remain aligned so Patient Navigators can work efficiently and remain focused on guiding patients through the care pathway. Drive clear, proactive communication throughout the lifecycle of operational initiatives—from assessment and solution design through implementation, adoption, and measurement of results.   Core Competencies Strategic & Operational Leadership Sets a clear direction for the function and translates strategy into practical, scalable operating processes and priorities. Experience 8+ years of progressive operations experience, including at least 3–5 years in an operations leadership role, preferably within healthcare, patient navigation, care coordination, clinical operations, diagnostic services, or another distributed frontline operating environment. Demonstrated experience building, standardizing, and scaling operating models, workflows, SOPs, and best practices across multiple locations or a geographically distributed workforce. Experience developing and managing KPIs, performance dashboards, standards, and accountability frameworks used to identify operational gaps and drive measurable improvement. Demonstrated experience developing or overseeing training, onboarding, competency, and ongoing development programs for frontline employees and leaders. Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional operational initiatives from problem identification and solution design through implementation, adoption, and measurement of results.
