Quantum Leap Healthcare Collaborative (QLHC) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in 2005 as a collaboration between medical researchers at the University of California, San Francisco and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Our mission is to integrate high-impact research with clinical processes and systems technology to improve data management, expand access to clinical trial matching and sponsorship, and benefit patients, providers, and researchers. 

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Business Development leader who can leverage current relationships and develop new relationships with pharmaceutical, biotech partners and clinician scientists with industry ties to develop new business opportunities.  


The incumbent will lead, analyze and manage partners’ clinical trial needs; help educate and build relationships and partnerships in support of all Quantum Leap Healthcare Collaborative (QLHC) clinical trial programs. 


Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and uphold high standards and accountability regarding the quality of deliverables.

 

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:


  • Collaborate with functional areas including finance, legal, clinical safety, clinical operations, regulatory, and project management. 
  • Communicate and facilitate communication between pharmaceutical partners to investigators to generate new clinical trial arms. 
  • Advance the integration of clinical care and clinical research through developing partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners by locating, developing, defining, and closing business agreements and ensuring effective collaboration.
  • Delegate supporting roles to collaboration team members.
  • Manage project functions relating to communication flow, efficient meeting structures, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Directly manage across entire business portfolio, monitor partnership performance, develop strategies to address any issues, and manage appropriate escalation within the organization as needed.
  • Develop and execute partnership, including multi-party collaborations for clinical development, regulatory, safety reporting and other agreements.
  • Identify trendsetting ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.
  • Discover and explore business opportunities by actively networking with new and existing contacts.
  • Screen potential trial ideas by analyzing strategies, requirements, and financials.
  • Evaluate options and resolves internal priorities.
  • Develop and apply the negotiating strategies and positions required to quickly obtain consensus and enable contract execution according to tight timelines. 
  • Work with Clinical Operations, Collaborations, and internal and external partners to develop protocols and protocol amendments.
  • Contribute substantially to and manage protocol development for FDA and IRB submissions 
  • Work with Clinical Operations to transition new contracts into clinical implementation.
  • Attend occasional conferences and meetings at companies with the primary goal of developing new collaborations.
  • Interact with existing and potential government sponsors to establish and maintain new collaborations, with the maintenance function involving participating in report preparation and presenting status updates to sponsors.
  • Protect organization’s values by keeping information confidential.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure effective collaboration and alignment with partners and will be responsible for driving successful execution of partnership objectives.

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • MS degree (in life sciences preferred) in a relevant scientific field (e.g. pathology, molecular biology, cancer genetics, cancer biology, molecular oncology, etc) and 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development, and basic, clinical or translational research either in an academic, and/or industry setting; experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals or clinical diagnostics is preferred; OR PhD or MD degree (in life sciences preferred) in a relevant scientific field (e.g. pathology, molecular biology, cancer genetics, cancer biology, molecular oncology, etc) and 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development, and basic, clinical or translational research either in an academic and/or industry setting; experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals or clinical diagnostics is preferred. 
  • Experience in clinical practice or drug development, including expert understanding of critical development functions, e.g., oncology biomarker development, clinical trials, targeted therapy, immuno-oncology, etc. 
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills is a must.
  • Outstanding written skills with technical documents like protocols, etc.
