Position Summary:

The Employee Services & UIS Communications team connects University of Colorado (CU) faculty and staff to essential services, resources and opportunities, including HR, payroll, benefits, technology, and professional development, through clear, timely communications delivered across websites, social media, and digital campaigns.


As a member of the ES & UIS Communications team, the Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating appropriate audience digital content that promotes university services, programs and initiatives. The position develops compelling promotional and editorial content for websites, emails, marketing campaigns, internal CU employee publications, print collateral, social media and other outlets. 


The position also creates emails, customer email journeys and event registration sites. The Digital Content Specialist role requires strong management skills with creative digital, email, and content marketing experience, and a commitment to presenting complex information in engaging ways that demonstrate value and drive participation across digital platforms.


This position reports to the Assistant Director of Internal Communications and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff System. 
 

Where You Will Work:

Applicants must be Colorado residents or able to relocate to Colorado within a month of starting employment with University of Colorado System Administration.

This role is eligible to work remotely within Colorado.

Please note, leadership may adjust in-office work requirements with a minimum of three months' notice before any change can be implemented.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Communications

  • Creates website content in collaboration with subject matter experts to develop website content for an array of services and events.
  • Composes and edits articles and marketing copy for CU employee publications and newsletters, social media, emails, blog posts, posters, fliers and video scripts. 
  • Distributes communications materials via the CU website, employee intranet, blogs, social media, calendars, and databases to highlight Employee Services and UIS offerings and enhance the CU and department brand.
  • Creates emails and event registration pages as requested and provides registrant information as needed.
  • Prepares materials for outreach events, workshops and meetings. 
  • Executes special tasks/projects and other duties as assigned.

Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $60,000-$65,000.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please include all relevant experience in your resume to be accurately assessed against these qualifications.  You must meet all minimum requirements at the time of application to be considered for this role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (education requirement may be substituted on a year-for-year basis)
  • One (1) year of equivalent experience (in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field) 
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years’ equivalent experience (in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field)
  • Two (2) years of experience using website content management systems, especially Drupal.
  • Two (2) years of experience using email marketing tools, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • One (1) year of experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. 
  • Experience using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Working knowledge of graphic standards and branding.
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, employees will need to know the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize technical information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Creative thinking skills  to develop innovative approaches for delivering effective messages. 
  • Ability to deliver effective messages to constituents.
  • Working knowledge of social media outlets, such as Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
  • Ability to utilize email marketing tools, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and creative design tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
  • Ability to generate story ideas for department newsletters and publications.
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing, editing, proofreading and tenets of journalism, including AP style.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of website content management systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed.
  • Ability to self-start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.
