We are Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), a non-profit, community-governed organization that serves over 18,000 clients annually. Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and harm reduction. What the Program Entails

The Coalition of Community Health and Resource Centers brings together member organizations to demonstrate the collective impact of Community Health and Resource Centers and strengthen their ability to respond to community needs.

The Coalition works with its members to improve the consistency and quality of data collection, identify shared indicators, measure community impact, and use evidence to inform planning, communications, advocacy, funding applications, and engagement with decision-makers and community partners.

The Coalition and Somerset West Community Health Centre work within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework that acknowledges the existence and impacts of systemic racism and seeks to promote fair, inclusive, and equitable systems for everyone.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Coalition Coordinator, the Data Specialist will strengthen the Coalition’s ability to collect, understand, analyze, and use data to demonstrate the collective impact of Community Health and Resource Centers.

Working closely with member organizations, you will improve data quality and consistency, analyze existing data, identify priority indicators, and translate findings into clear reports.

This is a hands-on data quality and analysis role with a strong emphasis on working directly with organizations to improve how data is collected, interpreted, and reported

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative data professional who can combine strong technical and analytical capabilities with clear communication and relationship-building skills.

You understand how to identify data quality issues, improve data collection processes, analyze quantitative information, and translate technical findings into clear and accessible information for non-technical audiences.

Education

You have a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or social science field, such as: Statistics; Data Analytics or Data Science; Economics; Sociology; Public Health; Geographic Information Systems.

Professional Experience

You bring relevant professional experience in:

• Working with quantitative data, including data cleaning, validation, analysis, and interpretation.
• Developing or improving data collection systems, processes, and reporting practices.
• Translating technical data and analytical findings into clear and accessible information for non-technical audiences.
• Working collaboratively with multiple organizations or stakeholders, preferably within the community health sector.
• Identifying inconsistencies, gaps, limitations, and other data quality issues.
• Using data to support program evaluation, impact measurement, planning, communications, advocacy, or funding priorities
• Experience working in community health and resource centers, social services, non-profit organizations, or public policy is required.

Language Capability

• You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Your Day-to-Day at a Glance

As our Data Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

Validate and standardize data

• Review existing Community Health and Resource Centre data to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and information requiring validation.
• Work with the Coalition Coordinator and member organizations to confirm, clarify, and improve submitted data.
• Assess data quality, reliability, sample sizes, limitations, and appropriate parameters for use.
• Develop clear guidance, and practical tools to support consistent data collection and reporting across member organizations.
• Clarify data requirements, timelines, and expectations, including requirements related to raw and aggregated data.
• Support Community Health and Resource Centers in troubleshooting and strengthening their data collection and collation practices.

Analyze data and identify impact

• Analyze existing data to identify trends, outcomes, and areas of impact.
• Work with the Coalition Coordinator to identify priority indicators and data points that effectively demonstrate the impact of Community Health and Resource Centers.
• Use data to support operational, advocacy, funding, and organizational priorities.
• Work with the Coalition Coordinator to identify opportunities where stronger data collection could better demonstrate impact in future years.
• Develop recommendations to strengthen ongoing data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

Translate data into communications, planning, and advocacy

• Translate data and analytical findings into clear, accessible information for reports, communications materials, and funding applications.
• Collaborate with the communications team to identify data that can be shared publicly and advise on effective ways to present it.
• Support the Coalition in using data to communicate the impact of Community Health and Resource Centers.
• Use evidence to strengthen the Coalition’s engagement with decision-makers, funders, partners, and other priority audiences.
• Develop clear data summaries, reports, visualizations, and impact messages for technical and non-technical audiences.

Contribute to SWCHC’s organizational responsibilities

• Protect the confidentiality of organizational, employee, partner, and community information and minimize risks when working with data.
• Contribute to the collection, analysis, and reporting of relevant data and information.
• Support the development of logic models, work plans, outcome measures, and program reports.
• Participate actively in team meetings, collaborative working groups, and organizational initiatives, as required.
• Contribute feedback to the development of relevant policies, procedures, and data practices.
• Comply with all applicable SWCHC policies, procedures, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Participate in required training and professional development activities.
