Design, develop, and maintain scalable data integration solutions and pipelines across enterprise systems and cloud platforms. Ensure accurate data delivery through rigorous monitoring, documentation, and adherence to security and operational controls.

Data Integration Engineer
APEI

The Data Integration Engineer designs, develops, operates, and improves data integration solutions that move information between enterprise source systems, cloud data platforms, databases, applications, and external partners.

This role is responsible for building reliable, secure, and scalable data pipelines using databases, APIs, files, change data capture, vendor connectors, and other approved integration methods. The Data Integration Engineer ensures that data is delivered accurately, on schedule, and with the monitoring, documentation, security, and operational controls required for production use.

The position works closely with application teams, data engineers, architecture, DevOps, security, data governance, quality assurance, business stakeholders, and external vendors. The role focuses on the technical movement and validation of data and does not independently define business metrics, reporting requirements, enterprise business rules, or data-governance policy.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support data integrations across enterprise applications, databases, cloud platforms, APIs, files, and third-party systems.
  • Develop reliable batch, incremental, change-data-capture, API, and secure file-transfer pipelines using approved integration tools and standards.
  • Configure and maintain source connections, destinations, schedules, credentials, synchronization methods, and environment-specific settings.
  • Create and maintain source-to-target mappings, technical documentation, pipeline diagrams, support runbooks, and deployment records.
  • Implement controls for data completeness, accuracy, reconciliation, duplicate prevention, freshness, traceability, and error handling.
  • Monitor pipelines, investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis, restore service, and communicate impacts to affected stakeholders.
  • Design integrations to support restartability, schema changes, late-arriving data, partial failures, reprocessing, and source-system outages.
  • Partner with data engineering, DevOps, security, governance, application teams, and vendors to deliver secure and supportable integration solutions.
  • Evaluate source-system changes and communicate risks or impacts to pipelines, downstream systems, and delivery schedules.
  • Improve, modernize, and retire legacy integration processes while identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and control operating costs

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Five or more years of experience in data integration, data engineering, ETL/ELT development, database engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong SQL skills and experience developing and supporting production data pipelines in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid environments.
• Experience integrating databases, APIs, secure file transfers, flat files, semi-structured data, and third-party applications.
• Experience with data integration platforms such as Airbyte, CData, Fivetran, Informatica, Matillion, Azure Data Factory, Talend, or comparable tools.
• Working knowledge of batch processing, incremental loading, change data capture, schema evolution, error handling, and restartable pipeline design.
• Experience with a scripting or programming language such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Java.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Databricks, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with pipeline monitoring, alerting, logging, reconciliation, incident response, and production recovery.
• Working knowledge of source control, CI/CD practices, data security, encryption, credential management, and least-privilege access.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
