1 - BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT ABOUT WFP
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. The Management Services Division continues to look for digital solutions to meet the growing demand from the organization and implement initiatives related to
digital transformation.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The Management Services Division (MSD) supports a community of over 3,000 team members, worldwide – ranging in profiles from Architects and Engineers to Drivers and Maintenance Workers. The Administration functional area prides itself on providing quality customer service while ensuring that WFP operations reach our beneficiaries, smoothly, even in the toughest conditions, through providing efficient, cost-effective digital solutions for our colleagues in the field. The priorities of the MSD transformation are developed with the view of providing relevant solutions in alignment with the needs of our end-users/customers, situated in field locations, involving all Administration workstreams, including Engineering.
This role evolves from the previous MSDI Communications and Engagement Officer to support the implementation of MS communication, advocacy and engagement strategy under the supervision
of the Head of MSD Communications. The role focuses on enabling the global function to prepare for the One Global HQ model, fostering and improving implementation of key MS initiatives, creating high-quality communication products, and driving internal and external activities to
advance WFP & Management Services, coordination, engagement and advocacy goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the Direct supervision of the Head of Communications, MSD, the Communications and
Engagement Officer will:
- Lead MSD internal and external communications through liaising, supporting, and advising respective technical experts and teams, and communicating with relevant field-based colleagues.
- Collaborate closely with the MSD Communications Team, COM Division, Unit Heads, technical teams, cross-functional partners, Chiefs of MSD, to communicate internal and external initiatives and ensure prioritization and consistent messaging aligned to Divisional needs and corporate standards in line with COM’s guidance.
- Communications, engagement, and knowledge management actions include:
o Advising MSD teams on communications approaches and updates, particularly supporting Return to Office.
o Conceptualizing and executing communications and engagement plans and strategies, for MSD in line with MSD Communications Team approach.
o Writing and editing various kinds of content including but not limited to WFP Go and WFP.Org articles, blog posts, briefs, and social media when required.
o Producing communications products including but not limited to: WFP Go pages, presentations, online surveys, videos, scripts and talking points etc.
o Any other reasonable requests as required from time to time by the MSD Communications Head.
- All the above will be done through:
o Building relationships with team members; maintaining active communication with project managers, technical personnel, and internal and external partners as necessary.
o Managing and meeting deadlines of a high-volume workload
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or a related field is strongly preferred
• A minimum of 3 years post graduate professional experience.
Experience: • Proven experience in leading and managing strategic and
operational communications
Knowledge & Skills:
• Ability to provide advice on communications issues; and to analyse
and interpret material of a complex nature.
• Must be capable of working independently with a high
level of accuracy and proficiency.
• Ability to work independently and in a team and establish effective
working relations with people of different national and cultural
backgrounds.
• Outstanding communication skills including oral, written, editing,
and presentation skills.
• Possess excellent organizational and time management skills to
effectively meet multiple deadlines.
• Exceptional attention to detail following company standards, and
pride in producing quality work.
• Ability to effectively liaise and lead subject matter experts towards
producing communication material.
• Familiarity with different approaches to communications campaigns.
Languages:
• Fluency (mother tongue or advance level C) in professional English –
written, spoken, and oral comprehension.
