Construction Project Accountant (REMOTE)

Basis Industrial is seeking a Construction Project Accountant to manage project accounting activities for construction and development projects from inception through closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, specifically with Yardi software. This role emphasizes organization skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time and fully remote position, reporting to the Controller. Candidate is expected to work during EST business hours.     Responsibilities

• Manage project set up and ensure accurate job cost accounting, budget tracking, forecasting and variance analysis
• Review, code, and process contractor and vendor contracts and invoices in Yardi Construction Manager and P2P
• Prepare and review monthly project financial reports and reconciliations including multi-year cash flow forecasts
• Reconcile project subledgers to general ledger
• Monitor project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, and forecasts throughout the project life cycle
• Prepare construction draws (as needed) and monitor cash balances and funding sources
• Enter and maintain jobs, contracts, change orders and project financial data in Yardi Construction Manager
• Review contractor pay applications, including AIA G702/G703 or equivalent documentation, and validate contract amounts, approved change orders, retainage, prior billings and supporting documentation.
• Prepare and reconcile construction loan draw packages, track lender/equity funding, sources and uses, and ensure compliance with applicable funding requirements.
• Coordinate project accounting closeout, including final cost reconciliation, contract/commitment closeout, retainage releases, CIP clearing and transfer of completed projects to fixed assets.
• Calculate and/or support capitalization of eligible development costs, including capitalized interest, as applicable.
• Ensure proper controls are followed for change orders, budget revisions, and commitments
• Collaborate with property managers, construction team, asset managers, accounts payable, and accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial information
• Maintain and ensure compliance of project documentation including COI compliance and receipt of accurate lien waivers
• Prepare year-end fixed asset schedules and other support materials for audit and tax
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and system efficiencies

  Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3+ years of construction or project accounting within a real estate organization
• 2+ years recent hands on experience with Yardi Construction Manager
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting, change orders, construction contracts, and project budgeting
• Experience with construction loan draws and CIP accounting
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy
