THE ROLE

The Campaign Communications Manager (West) is a new position created to lead communications for a portfolio of regional campaigns across the western United States. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Regional Campaign Communications, this role serves as the primary communications partner for campaigns in California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Kansas, and Idaho. The Campaign Communications Manager will own the coordination and implementation of multichannel communications strategies in close partnership with regional program staff. Success in this role requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional writing and project management skills, the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously, and a collaborative approach to working across communications, digital engagement, policy, and regional campaign teams. In their first year, this role will prioritize becoming an expert in our digital and press tools and gaining a deep understanding of our campaign priorities and how best to communicate them to our key audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Campaign Communications Manager (West) primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT + CAMPAIGN EXECUTION (40%)

  • Develop and manage high-quality communications materials, including press releases, media statements, blog posts, digital content, talking points, messaging documents, social media content, email campaigns, and campaign toolkits.
  • Coordinate communications tactics across multiple channels to ensure consistent messaging and integrated campaign execution.
  • Work closely with program and media staff to develop compelling campaign content and storytelling assets.
  • Support rapid-response communications needs as campaigns evolve.

REGIONAL CAMPAIGN COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY (25%)

  • Serve as the primary communications partner for a portfolio of regional campaigns across the West.
  • Collaborate with campaign leads to integrate communications strategy into campaign planning, decision-making, and implementation.
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Regional Campaign Communications to develop comprehensive communications plans that support campaign objectives across earned media, digital engagement, web content, and storytelling.
  • Identify strategic communications opportunities that increase campaign visibility, influence decision-makers, and engage key audiences.

CAMPAIGN COORDINATION + OPERATIONS (20%)

  • Develop campaign communications timelines, work plans, and implementation schedules.
  • Coordinate communications deliverables across program staff, communications colleagues, consultants, and external partners.
  • Contribute to shared communications systems, templates, workflows, and best practices that improve coordination across campaigns.
  • Maintain organized project management systems and ensure communications deliverables remain on schedule.

PERFORMANCE + CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (10%)

  • Monitor campaign communications performance and identify opportunities to strengthen impact.
  • Share insights, lessons learned, and best practices across the communications team.
  • Contribute to communications reporting and campaign evaluations.
  • Support ongoing improvements to communications planning, coordination, and operational processes.

LEARNING + DEVELOPMENT (5%)

  • Continue personal learning and contribute to organizational-wide learning
  • Work to embed equity in all organizational internal practices and culture, as well as our programs.
  • Bring openness and engagement to personal, professional, and organization-wide learning on race, class, gender, justice, and equity.

REQUIREMENTS

WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED

  • Four to Seven years of experience in communications, public affairs, advocacy, journalism, marketing, or a demonstrated track record that matches this experience.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated communications campaigns for advocacy, policy, political, nonprofit, or issue-based campaigns across traditional and digital media channels.
  • Strong writing, editing, and message development skills.
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling public-facing communications.

WHAT YOU MIGHT BE EXCITED TO LEARN

  • Knowledge of state legislative, regulatory, or public policy campaigns.
  • Knowledge of clean energy, climate policy, environmental advocacy, or related issue areas.

LOCATION

WESTERN US  (Preference for California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Kansas, or Idaho)

This is a remote position within the United States, with a preference for candidates based near a transportation hub in the western part of the country. Preference will be given to candidates in CA, AZ, NV, CO, NM, and UT. This position will require some national travel. Workplace arrangements are flexible, including options to work from a co-working space or work from home. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $89,900 - $97,500. At Vote Solar, we work hard to ensure that our compensation is equitable internally and aligned with our compensation philosophy and defined job levels. In order to ensure equitable compensation across roles in the organization, we do not negotiate new hire offers.

Vote Solar provides full-time staff with a competitive package, including 4 weeks of paid vacation, 12 days of sick leave, 4 days of personal leave and 16 paid holidays. We also offer 100% employer-provided health, dental and vision care for team members; a retirement savings plan with an employer contribution of 3.5%; and a paid parental and medical leave policy for all regular employees.
