The Program 

The Capital Markets Student Mentorship Program is a voluntary initiative that creates opportunity for select students from traditionally under-represented groups pursuing careers in Capital Markets with an improved understanding of the industry, opportunities to build networks, and professional development support. 

If you identify as a 1st or 2nd year undergraduate student from one or more groups traditionally under-represented in financial services, including people of colour, members of the Black Community, Indigenous Peoples (i.e., First Nations, Métis or Inuit), persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and/or women, the Capital Markets Student Mentorship Program will give you the opportunity to accelerate your career development through: 

• Gaining industry knowledge and leadership skills through monthly learning sessions.
• Learning directly from leaders of the various areas of Capital Markets to gain a broader industry view of Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Global Markets.  
• Building your professional network through virtual and in-person VIP events.
• Improving resume, networking and interview skills.
• Securing a guaranteed interview for future CIBC Capital Markets student opportunities! 

Important Information 

• This is not a paid position, but an opportunity to be mentored toward reaching your short and long-term career goals.
• The Mentoring Program will run from November 2026 – April 2027 and will require approximately 1-3 hours of your time each month. 
• You have not previously received an offer for a CIBC Capital Markets student position. 
• Location: Anywhere across Canada.   
• This opportunity closes on October 12th, 2026, 11:59 PM EST.

Program Qualifications

• You are enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or a related program with a graduation date no sooner than 2029. 
• You are from one or more groups traditionally under-represented in financial services, including people of colour, members of the Black Community, Indigenous Peoples (i.e., First Nations, Métis or Inuit), persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and/or women.

Please review carefully: Applications should include your resume (no more than 2 pages), cover letter (no more than 1 page), an unofficial transcript and written responses (outlined below), all to be uploaded to the Resume/CV section of the application.

Please include the answers to the following four questions to demonstrate your interest in the program (maximum of 250 words per answer. Submit via a word doc or pdf). 

• Tell us a bit about yourself.  
• Which line of business within Capital Markets are you most interested in pursuing a career in, and why? (Investment Banking, Corporate Banking or Global Markets). Please select only 1 line of business to include in your response. 
• What would you like to achieve by participating in this program? 
• Share a meaningful personal accomplishment unrelated to academics.
