Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas Grantham is looking for a REMOTE Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Operations in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, DE, FL, GA, KS, IA, ID, IN, KY, LA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI and WY.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Operations provides leadership for the operational infrastructure of the academic division. This position oversees Academic Operations, Faculty Managers and the Education Technology areas. This role translates strategic academic vision into scalable operational systems, administrative compliance, and academic technology. This position ensures UA Grantham maintains and further develops processes that enable efficiency and effectiveness. The Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Operations is responsible for the execution of innovative, impactful processes and moving forward projects.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

60% - Operational Management
• Establish and oversee academic operations to establish consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency
• Ensure the execution of strategic academic projects and educational technology initiatives in a compliant and timely manner
• Ensure operational integrity, workflow optimization, and high-quality service delivery across the Academic Operations, Faculty Management, and Education Technology teams
• Develop and maintain academic operational workflows and continuous process improvements to support institutional growth.
• Other duties as assigned

20% - People Management
• Define team priorities, deliverables, timelines, and performance standards
• Ensure direct reports have well-defined responsibilities, documented procedures, and required resources
• Manage performance using metrics, clear expectations, and standardized policy application
• Provide training, tools, and clear processes while monitoring progress and adjusting resources as needed

15% - Stakeholder Engagement
• Coordinate with the academic team and other stakeholders to ensure efficient faculty management and operational alignment across academics
• Collaborate effectively with university leadership and cross-functional administrative units to streamline operational workflows, eliminate process bottlenecks, and advance strategic academic priorities
• Maintain relationships and interact with higher education partners to drive technological innovation and operational excellence.

5% - Continuous Learning and Development
• Continuously update skills and knowledge through required training
• Seek feedback and opportunities for growth to enhance expertise and effectiveness


Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate in Education, Higher Education Administration or a related field preferred

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience in higher education; at least 7 years in a leadership role
  • Experience managing a team in a remote environment preferred

 

 SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience in higher education academic operations, instructional design strategies, and faculty development frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of online education, including best practices in online teaching and learning.
  • Ability to analyze operational metrics to drive efficiency and optimize resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing complex, multi-phase academic projects and guiding teams through organizational changes.
  • Basic operational budget management, resource forecasting, and risk-mitigation skills within an academic environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to articulate operational strategies across all institutional levels.
  • Proven collaborative track record of leading, mentoring, and building consensus within diverse, geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong talent development skills with the proven ability to train staff, drive high performance toward shared goals, and directly address difficult performance conversations.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and regulatory requirements in higher education.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) paired with a resourceful, analytical approach to conflict resolution and operational decision-making.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with all levels of staff and leadership.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, required
  • Research skills required 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common journals and legal documents. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to effectively present information to executive management, faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Mathematical Skill: Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
