Assistant Underwriter

We’re on the hunt for a talented Assistant Underwriter to join our Marine and Leisure team. You will be a part of our talented underwriting team in Brighton, focused primarily on commercial marine business. This is a key step for aspiring underwriters wanting to develop a career in Marine Underwriting and you will work in collaboration with our Underwriting teams, Brokers, and the Technical and Business Development Teams to acquire and retain profitable, target business in line with company underwriting strategies and business plans across the portfolio of range of Geo Marine Trade Products Including Navigators & General Trade.

As part of your development, you will gain a strong knowledge of our products and learn underwriting and trading skills needed to help drive the business forwards.

You will be part of a specialist marine business within Geo Underwriting Services Limited. Geo is the UK Commercial MGA for Ardonagh Advisory, and a Gold rated Investor in Customer Insurance specialising in Agriculture, Construction, Property, Liability, Marine and Protection lines.

What does an Assistant Underwriter here do?

This is an overview and not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Collaborating with your team, you will focus on the following:

· Initiation and development of new underwriting opportunities across relationships and products, in line with an agreed underwriting licence

· Processing renewals and new business on our policy administration system.

· Review historical underwriting records and claims information and ensure this is captured to support underwriting decisions

· Build relationships with our brokers and customers over the phone to support any queries they may have.

· Respond to customer and broker enquiries professionally and efficiently.

· Complete diarised tasks within set timeframes.

· Always maintain agreed service levels.

· Data entry and record keeping.

· Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements.

· Operate within personal authority limits and delegated parameters.

· Achieve individual targets while contributing to team goals.

· Seek to build professional underwriting capabilities across our marine business lines and product suite.

· To contribute positively to Geo Marine and Leisure culture

What are we looking for in our next Assistant Underwriter?

As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll be working within our underwriting teams for both new and existing business. This is a key part of our underwriting functions and a great first step for anyone seeking a career in the highly specialised marine insurance environment. The role will be both internally and externally focused working with our underwriting teams to underwrite and process business in accordance with your licence via our brokers and customers, so it’s important that you are great at communicating and are passionate about providing excellent customer service. You will be a self-starter, with strong organisation skills and a desire to learn. You will look for opportunities to develop yourself and the business you are joining.

We’ll support and train you in all the technical aspects of the role and will make sure that you feel part of the team from day one.
