Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) educator to join our graduate nursing team as an Assistant Professor. This fully remote position offers a unique opportunity to combine teaching excellence, curriculum leadership, faculty mentorship, and academic administration while helping prepare the next generation of mental health providers.

This is more than a faculty role. As a leader within the PMHNP program, you will influence curriculum quality, faculty development, student success, academic operations, and continuous improvement initiatives across the program.

What You'll Do

Lead PMHNP Course Excellence

As a content expert and academic leader, you will oversee the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of assigned PMHNP courses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the subject matter expert for assigned courses.
  • Leading course introductions and faculty best-practice forums.
  • Monitoring student progress and outcomes across course sections.
  • Analyzing assessment data, exam performance, and course metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Reviewing exam and quiz questions to ensure quality, validity, and alignment with learning outcomes.
  • Evaluating student feedback and implementing course enhancements.
  • Resolving course-related concerns, grade appeals, and assessment challenges.
  • Collaborating with instructional designers to develop and enhance engaging online learning experiences.
  • Integrating evidence-based practice, emerging mental health trends, accreditation requirements, and current clinical standards into curriculum.
  • Developing annual course reports and presenting recommendations for improvement.
  • Leading faculty training and communication when significant course updates are implemented.
  • Partnering with academic leadership to ensure curriculum quality and consistency across the PMHNP program.

Support Faculty Success

You will serve as a mentor, coach, and resource for faculty while promoting excellence in online teaching and student engagement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring new and experienced faculty members.
  • Providing coaching, guidance, and professional development support.
  • Developing faculty training resources and educational materials.
  • Supporting instructor onboarding and ongoing faculty development initiatives.
  • Facilitating best-practice sharing and collaboration among faculty.
  • Promoting instructional consistency across multiple course sections.
  • Assisting faculty with grading concerns, academic integrity matters, student engagement strategies, and program policies.
  • Supporting faculty performance improvement plans and professional growth opportunities.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Serve as Assistant Dean of Faculty (ADOF)

In this leadership capacity, you will play a vital role in faculty operations, talent development, and program success.

Faculty Leadership & Operations

  • Recruit, interview, select, and onboard qualified PMHNP faculty.
  • Ensure courses are staffed with highly qualified instructors.
  • Monitor faculty workload, qualifications, certifications, licensure, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations and provide timely performance feedback.
  • Analyze and communicate faculty performance and qualification metrics.
  • Develop and facilitate ongoing faculty development programs.
  • Lead faculty meetings and promote engagement in program initiatives.
  • Support faculty retention and succession planning efforts.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition regarding hiring needs and workforce planning.

Student Success & Academic Quality

  • Partner with Student Services and program leadership to support student success initiatives.
  • Guide faculty in addressing student concerns, escalations, and academic performance challenges.
  • Provide consultation regarding practicum, preceptor, and clinical placement concerns.
  • Assist with academic integrity investigations and resolution of student issues.
  • Support initiatives that improve student satisfaction, persistence, and program outcomes.

Contribute to Academic Leadership

Faculty at the Assistant Professor rank are expected to contribute to the university's mission through leadership, scholarship, and service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in university committees and cross-functional workgroups.
  • Supporting accreditation preparation and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Participating in curriculum review, program evaluation, and assessment activities.
  • Contributing to scholarship through teaching, discovery, application, and integration.
  • Using academic and student outcome data to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serving as a professional role model for students and colleagues.
  • Contributing to strategic initiatives that advance program growth and excellence.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing and a doctoral degree either in nursing or field of teaching specialty required.
  • Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification.
  • Unencumbered professional nursing licensure. In compliance with Illinois Board of Nursing regulations, successful candidates are required to obtain Illinois nursing licensure within 30 days of employment.
  • Active, compact RN nursing license preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of teaching, training, staff development, or educational experience at the graduate level.
  • Minimum of one year of online teaching experience.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, online instructional technologies, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, leadership, and support staff in a collaborative online environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous academic leadership or faculty leadership experience.
  • Experience leading curriculum improvement, course development, or faculty development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience with accreditation standards and quality improvement processes in higher education.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $120,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
