Job Description

 

Western Governors University is currently recruiting for multiple Prelicensure Nursing Instructor opportunities in the following specialty areas:

• D449 – Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
• D449 – Maternal Psych
• D447 – Women’s and Children’s Nursing

Candidates may be considered for one or more current openings based on their subject-matter expertise and overall qualifications. Applicants are not required to have experience in all three specialty areas.

Job Duties

Instructors are subject-matter experts who teach and support a caseload of students enrolled in their assigned course(s). Instructors offer specialized instruction on topics within their course(s), aligned with best practices, while monitoring and supporting student progress in competency development and course completion.

Instructors are responsive to learner needs and vary the type, length, method, and intensity of instruction to best match each learner’s strengths and goals. Using technology, instructors may interact with students in both group and one-to-one settings. Instructors also collaborate with other instructional and program faculty serving students in their course(s) to ensure continuity and quality of support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develops instructional materials aligned with identified learning objectives, course competencies, and instructional interventions to support both student self-service use and virtual one-to-many events.
• Provides effective, relevant, and engaging one-to-many virtual events aligned with identified learning objectives.
• Continually develops knowledge, skills, and expertise through active participation in faculty learning communities and other professional development opportunities.
• Provides proactive, relevant, timely, and effective one-to-one virtual instruction to students within a specific course or domain.
• Facilitates student communities to support peer collaboration, effective faculty interaction, and student development.
• Provides student-centered, effective one-to-one virtual coaching to help students achieve personal, academic, and career goals.
• Adapts instructional and coaching practices to meet common and individual student needs.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

• Subject-matter expertise in the assigned content and skills of the course(s) or domain(s).
• Strong knowledge of how student characteristics interact with different learning needs common to the assigned course(s) or domain(s).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to moderate online student communities to encourage engagement and learning.
• Ability to use information from student profiles, learning behaviors, and interactions to identify individual student needs.

Core Minimum Requirements

All candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Nursing and all applicable licenses or certifications.
• Active, unencumbered compact/multistate RN licensure, with the ability to secure active, unencumbered licensure in all states as required for the role.
• Three years of highly successful academic practice, based on student outcomes, working with Prelicensure or Undergraduate Nursing students, including at least one year of online faculty experience.
• Recent clinical or teaching experience within the applicable specialty area within the past five years.
• Availability to work a student-centered schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to travel up to 20% for the role, including required attendance at designated company Summits. Additional travel may be assigned as needed to support business requirements.

Specialty Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate subject-matter expertise in at least one of the following specialty areas.

D449 – Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.

D449 – Maternal Psych

• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.
• Subject-matter expertise or relevant experience in Women’s and Children’s Nursing is preferred.
• Candidates with experience spanning psychiatric or mental health nursing and maternal, perinatal, women’s health, postpartum, or related nursing specialties may be particularly well aligned with this opportunity.

D447 – Women’s and Children’s Nursing

• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in Women’s and Children’s Nursing.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends, including at least a four-hour scheduled block on Sunday evenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree and all applicable domain-specific licenses or certifications.
• Strong experience with distance education and working with distance-learning students.
• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise across more than one applicable nursing specialty.
• Experience teaching across multiple Prelicensure or Undergraduate Nursing courses.

Travel Requirements

• This position requires occasional travel of up to 20%.
• Required travel includes attendance at designated company Summits, typically one to two times per year.
• Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed.
• Additional travel may be assigned based on business requirements.
