About the Role:

We’re looking for an Ancillary Products Controller to join our Finance team. The Ancillary Products Controller is the finance and accounting leader for Real's ancillary product businesses — including Real Wallet and Mortgage — and reports to the Assistant Controller. This role oversees the accounting managers and analysts embedded within each ancillary business line, ensuring that journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities are properly reviewed and comply with US GAAP and company policy.

Beyond accounting oversight, this role is a hands-on finance business partner to the Wallet and Mortgage business leaders. The Ancillary Products Controller will spend significant time embedded with these businesses, helping evaluate the accounting and financial reporting implications of new products, features, and innovation efforts before and as they launch — acting as a trusted advisor who can translate emerging business ideas into sound accounting treatment, controls, and reporting structures.

What You’ll Do:

Accounting Oversight & Controllership

• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close deliverables prepared by the Wallet and Mortgage accounting teams.

• Ensure accurate, timely, GAAP-compliant financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) across all ancillary product lines.

• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and segregation of duties across the ancillary products accounting function.

• Coordinate internal and external audit support for the ancillary businesses, respond to audit inquiries, and implement audit recommendations.

• Oversee treasury, cash management, and liquidity monitoring specific to each ancillary product (e.g., Wallet line-of-credit funding, mortgage escrow/funding accounts).

• Monitor compliance with relevant regulatory requirements across payments and mortgage activities.

Business Partnership & Innovation Support

• Serve as the primary finance business partner to the Wallet and Mortgage business leaders, embedding early in product and innovation discussions.

• Proactively assess the accounting implications (revenue recognition, cost treatment, entity/legal structuring, controls) of new products, features, and business models as they are developed.

• Partner with Product, R&D, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure new ancillary initiatives are structured and launched with sound financial reporting and controls in place from day one.

• Provide financial analysis, profitability assessments, and scenario planning to support strategic decisions on new or evolving ancillary offerings.

• Translate complex or ambiguous new business activity into practical accounting guidance for both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting for the ancillary product portfolio, and present insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

• Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting managers, controllers, and analysts supporting the ancillary product lines.

• Identify and drive process improvements, automation, and reporting efficiencies across the ancillary products accounting function.

• Support special projects assigned by the Assistant Controller, including system implementations, process redesign, and new business expansion efforts.

What You’ll Bring:

• Strong technical accounting knowledge (US GAAP) with the ability to research and apply guidance to new and emerging transaction types.

• Proven experience managing and developing accounting staff.

• Excellent business partnering, communication, and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with senior business and product leaders.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a strategic, solutions-oriented mindset.

• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and fast-changing, innovation-driven environments.

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities across several business lines simultaneously.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;

• CPA certification required.

• Big 4 audit firm experience required

• 8-10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 3+ years managing accounting staff.

• Experience overseeing accounting and reporting for multiple business lines or products simultaneously.

• Experience in fintech/payments, mortgage, or other regulated financial services is a strong plus.

• Demonstrated experience partnering with product/business teams on new initiatives and evaluating their accounting implications.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and PowerPoint required.
