Position Summary

Why UNM Department Emergency Medicine?
This is more than a traditional administrative position. Our team supports an academic department responsible for patient care, medical education, research, and service to communities throughout the entire state of New Mexico. The work you do behind the scenes helps our clinicians, educators, faculty, and programs succeed. You'll have the opportunity to learn multiple areas of academic healthcare administration, develop new skills, contribute to process improvement, and become part of a team working to continuously strengthen how Emergency Medicine operates. If you're organized, dependable, detail-oriented, collaborative, and looking for work where your contribution matters, we'd like to hear from you.

The UNM Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for two highly organized, collaborative administrative professionals to join our team.
Emergency Medicine is fast-paced, mission-driven, and highly collaborative. Our administrative team works alongside faculty, clinicians, staff, and departmental leadership to support the people and systems that make our clinical, research, and education missions possible.

We are looking for people who take pride in getting the details right, communicate well, enjoy being part of a team, and are willing to jump in when priorities shift.

What You'll Do:
In this role, you will provide administrative and operational support across the

Department of Emergency Medicine. Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating administrative processes, documentation, and departmental requests
  • Supporting faculty and staff with day-to-day operational needs
  • Tracking requests, deadlines, documentation, and follow-up items
  • Preparing, reviewing, and maintaining accurate records
  • Coordinating purchasing, procurement, reimbursements, and related documentation
  • Assisting with provider credentialing, onboarding, renewals, and required documentation
  • Communicating with internal departments, vendors, faculty, staff, and external partners
  • Helping identify opportunities to improve administrative workflows
  • Providing backup and cross-coverage for members of the administrative shared services team
  • Supporting special projects and departmental initiatives as priorities evolve

What We're Looking For:

Attention to detail
Our work involves deadlines, documentation, compliance, and processes that directly support a busy academic medical department. Accuracy matters.
A collaborative mindset.

We operate as a team. The right person communicates openly, shares information, supports coworkers, and understands that departmental success is a shared responsibility.
Strong organization and follow-through.

You should be comfortable managing multiple requests, keeping track of deadlines, and ensuring work gets completed.
Professional communication.

You will interact with faculty, clinicians, staff, leadership, vendors, and university partners. Clear, responsive, and professional communication is essential.
Adaptability.

Emergency Medicine moves quickly. Priorities can change, and we value people who can adjust while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

See the Position Description for additional information.
