The adjunct instructor will teach piano-based classes, individual lessons, and upper-level music courses while utilizing the Canvas learning management system. Responsibilities also include providing piano accompaniment for ensembles, rehearsals, and university events.
The department of Humanities and Social Sciences has periodic openings for part-time, adjunct faculty to teach on site or online in the Fine Arts: Music program. The primary responsibility will be teaching basic to advanced piano classes, individual applied music lessons in piano or other instruments, and upper-level music courses as needed in theory, music tech, composition, and music history. There may be opportunities for piano accompaniment as well. As part of our commitment to academic excellence, we are building a pool of skilled instructors who can contribute to students’ success through engaging and effective teaching. Position Overview:
Adjunct instructors in Fine Arts: Music will primarily teach piano-based classes and lessons. There may be opportunities to teach upper-level music courses and to accompany ensembles. Courses may be offered face-to-face or online, though face-to-face is preferred. The principal responsibility of the position is teaching undergraduate students.
Teach courses on-campus or online as assigned.
Accompany ensembles and other musical applications, depending on need. Musical applications may include ensemble accompaniment, voice studio, piano lessons, jury examinations, rehearsals, recitals, and university events.
Work with the program director to ensure consistent and appropriate student learning.
Utilize the University’s learning management system (Canvas) to assess student projects and record grades in a timely manner.
Regularly check your email account. Respond to emails/messages in a timely manner.
Complete all required reports, such as early grade alerts, midterm grades, and final grades.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Music with a specialty in piano, or a related field.
Demonstrated piano proficiency.
Proven record of quality instruction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching college-level courses.
Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
