About the Course
HLTH 101 — Health 101 is a 3-unit, 5-week asynchronous General Education course that introduces students to foundational concepts of personal and community health. Topics include physical wellness, mental and emotional health, nutrition, fitness, stress management, disease prevention, substance use, and the social determinants of health. The course fulfills a General Education requirement within the Associate of Science degree program and supports student health literacy in alignment with ACCJC Standard 2.A.
Position Responsibilities
· Deliver an asynchronous, instructor-facilitated course in Orbund consistent with the institutional syllabus and course shell.
· Maintain Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) per 34 CFR §600.2: weekly announcements, instructor-led discussion facilitation, individualized graded feedback, and timely response to student inquiries.
· Grade student work and submit final grades within institutional timelines (10 business days for assignments; 7 days after term close for final grades).
· Respond to student communications within 48 business hours, excluding weekends.
· Complete required institutional training (Accreditation Responsibilities, FERPA, and others) within 30 days of engagement.
· Participate in 90-day probationary review and annual evaluation under AOP 7.1.x.
Minimum Qualifications
· Master's degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Education, Community Health, Kinesiology, Nursing, Nutrition, or a closely related health-and-wellness field from a regionally accredited U.S. institution; OR
· Master's degree in a related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester units in health-related coursework.
· Demonstrated postsecondary teaching experience, preferably in an online or hybrid environment.
· Reliable computer, internet, and home-office setup compatible with Orbund.
· U.S. work authorization (employment eligibility documentation required at offer).
Preferred Qualifications
· Three or more years of online undergraduate teaching experience.
· Active or recent professional practice in a health, wellness, or healthcare setting.
· Familiarity with CDC, WHO, or HealthyPeople 2030 frameworks in instructional design.
· Experience teaching adult learners or working in community health education.
