The Chief Underwriter oversees the underwriting strategy and execution for the Canadian life reinsurance business, managing risk selection and establishing guidelines. This role also drives innovation through digital transformation and provides technical leadership to the underwriting team.
Underwrite and assess risk across multiple lines of business, clearly communicate underwriting decisions, and ensure decisions remain competitive while complying with established protocols and controls. Help refine underwriting guidelines and procedures, maintain quality and service standards, and participate in internal and external audits.
This role involves evaluating life insurance applications, assessing risk, and determining appropriate coverage and pricing. The consultant will also collaborate with actuarial and data science teams while providing guidance to junior underwriters.
