WordPress Technical Lead / Developer

BVA Bear’s IT Solutions is seeking a part-time WordPress Technical Lead / Developer.

Remote work may or may not be authorized, depending on client requirements.

Work hours are expected to be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, excluding government holidays, with core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.
 
This role is responsible for assessing the current WordPress environment, defining the technical architecture, configuring and developing the CMS, creating reusable components and content structures, implementing approved integrations, coordinating hosting and security, optimizing performance, managing deployment, and providing technical handoff and post-launch support. 

• Assess the current WordPress environment, hosting, theme, plugins, permissions, security, backups, administrative practices, and reuse options. 
• Recommend and document the CMS architecture, hosting requirements, annual costs, security, maintenance responsibilities, staff usability, scalability, and support model. 
• Configure or develop reusable responsive components and templates for the homepage, primary landing pages, interior pages, programs, events, resources, news/blog, forms, and mobile/tablet layouts. 
• Implement structured content types, categories, tags, search, filtering, downloadable resources, program records, event listings, archives, and related content. 
• Configure user roles and permissions so authorized staff can independently manage website content. 
• Implement approved links, forms, embeds, or integrations for CRM, email marketing, event registration, payment processing, analytics, Search Console, social media, and video platforms. 
• Configure SSL/HTTPS, hosting security, backups, disaster recovery, software and plugin updates, malware protection, password and permission controls, form security, monitoring, and incident escalation. 
• Optimize page speed, caching, image delivery, Core Web Vitals, mobile usability, browser compatibility, and performance monitoring. 
• Implement approved technical SEO requirements, including metadata controls, search-friendly URLs, XML sitemap, robots.txt, redirects, schema where appropriate, image optimization, and internal linking. 
• Manage staging, release, cutover, deployment, smoke testing, rollback planning, production launch, technical documentation, and handoff. 
• Provide bug fixes, technical support, security updates, performance monitoring, and issue resolution during the minimum 90-day post-launch support period. 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, Information Systems, Digital Media, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience. 
• Minimum 5 years of experience developing and supporting WordPress, CMS, or comparable web platforms. 
• Demonstrated experience developing responsive, staff-manageable WordPress websites. 
• Experience with structured content, reusable components, search and filtering, forms, events, media, user permissions, and content administration. 
• Experience with hosting, SSL, backups, disaster recovery, software updates, plugin management, malware protection, security monitoring, and website performance. 
• Experience implementing or supporting third-party integrations with CRM, email, event registration, payment, analytics, social media, or video platforms. 
• Strong technical documentation, troubleshooting, communication, and knowledge-transfer skills.

• PRelevant WordPress, web-development, hosting, security, cloud, or accessibility certification. 
• Experience supporting nonprofit, entrepreneurship, economic-development, education, or other mission-driven websites. 
• Experience with technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Cvent, Center IC, Bloomerang, Constant Contact, JotForms, Authorize.net, or comparable systems.
